Question about GE JE1590 Convection / Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Microswitch nomenclature The serviceman told me I needed new microswitches for the door and a door latch on my JE1540AW002 - and the parts/switches were about $80 but installation was going to be over $200. I can find the GE parts page but can't identify the parts from the descriptions. I think the parts are Switch Monitor and Switch Secondary, parts (WB24X830 and WB24X829). Is that correct? Are these solder-in or snap-in? I can't find the numbers for the door-latch parts. Thanks in advance.

These are the OEM switches in that model: SWITCH-SECONDARY part # WB24X0829 reference # 1446 (it needs 2) SWITCH-MONITOR part # WB24X0830 reference # 1447 But... You can use a generic 15A three-terminal switch in each spot as long as the proper wire is attached to each of the the "C" (common), "NO" (normally open) and "NC" (normally closed) terminals. These replacements are available from a local appliance parts store, home improvement center, or Wal-Mart, etc. As far as the door latch is concerned, reference 1205 is listed as the "body latch". I usually call it the door switch mount. The tabs on the door switch mount sometimes break. If it is removed, the door has to be realigned and a leakage test must be done. But often one can fix it with epoxy, etc. without removing it. You need to also check to be sure the hooklike devices sticking out of the door are not broken off and that they have spring tension which pulls them back down after you push up on them. Sometiems the inner door screen has a little loop to which the spring mounts, and that loop breaks off inside. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk Also, there should be a mini-manual / tech sheet folded up inside the oven. It's very helpful. Another good source of parts lists and exploded views diagrams is http://www3.sears.com (the 3 is correct). Your model is there. Another part source for this one: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 Good luck, be careful and be safe.

Believe I have a bad door microswitch and probably the latch assy. Do I need to take the unit down to repair it?

Most likely you'll need to pull the cover off. If you can't pull the cover off with the unit where it is, then you'll need to take it down.

Why does the fan keep running on a kenmore spacemaster 300?

Check those 3 micro switches in the door latch assembly. A bad microswitch can blow the main fuse. This usually ruins the microswitch.

My microwave wont turn on. the power works, clock, timer and all electrical is working, it just wont turn on.

Most likely you have an interlock microswitch problem or a latch problem. as you just open or just close the door VERY slowly listen for 3 distinct clicks one for each of the 3 interlocks. Two you will hear as you press the door open button and the last one you will hear as the door just opens or closes. If you do NOT have 3 clicks you have a bad micro-switch.
The micro-switches you can purchase on line here:

I think you just have a simple micro-switch problem. However... if the latch assembly that holds the switch is cracked or broken it will have to be replaced. I have seen the plastic latch assembly fail causing the switch not to work properly.

On my emerson microwave model mw81195b, with the door closed on the unit cycled out a fan is still running. The only way to cycle the unit off is to open the door. The microwave functions fine except for...

I'm fairly sure the fan has a door switch and that may have failed. if you take the outer cover off the micro wave itself you hopefully will have a wiring diagram of the unit. Many times I have had to replace micro wave door switch's that have failed not letting it start or sometimes such as yours something like the light staying on. Being that you are a service man, I don't have to tell you be sure to disconnect the power to it and then you can use your ohm meter to check the switches. Hope this helps you

This problem is caused by a microswitch that is sticking in the closed position. Inspect and replace the defective microswitch in the latch assembly.

Microwave won't come out of start up mode. Clock flashing 00:00 and interior light on. Just moved house, owned micro for 3 years, lost manual in move. Please help.

could be a broken door hook; defective door microswitch or the microswitch bracket itself. the door just may need adjustment; as many people lift microvave by the bottom of the door; which is a no-no.

I have a Panasonic microwave NN-V689W where the door latch will no longer engage the microswitch. Where can I get a full parts list for this model?

You will need to check out from the Panasonic service centre ( try a search for this model) but the best will be to try to get a salvaged door assembly unit. Mostly many sets have their panel pads or electronic boards damaged leadding to scrapping the set. So if you can try you will be able to easily source all the reqired spares or the fully door assembly from a scrap dealer / repair shop. Also try to improvise with a latch for triggering the limit mocro switch. You can attach some plastic to be welded to the door latch so as to push the limit switch. at least for the time being or even use another limit switch with an extended stem. Hope you try this out. Good day .

Sparp R 930 not heating, turntable not turning

I just repaired mine with the same symptoms. I found that the bottom microswitch on the door (there are 3 switches) was faulty. It started as open, when the door closed, the switch closed (good), but when the door was fully closed the switch was open again. I went to Electronic City with the switch in hand, they found me a duplicate that cost me $2.50. BTW - you must take out the door switch assembly, 3 screws plus wires, in order to work on the switch. Also, put the assembly back in so that the door latches close/open the switches correctly. -jk

Microwave wont work

The microswitch operated by the door catch will need to be repositioned by a serviceman. Do not remove the microwave cover yourself as they are potentially lethal even when not plugged in to a power source because of a large capacitor holding high voltage charge.
