Hitachi 42EDT41 42 in. HDTV-Ready Plasma

I have perfect sound! but no picture? only vertical color lines. i change channels i can see the channel's logo (CBS, HBO in the corner?) repair guy came out. said possible the "y" board? I looks like there is only 3 boards inside. Power supply, "y" board and another? What is the "y" board how much. they want $600 to $800 to repair?

where can i get schematic for by? I would like to look at a few signal.

  • Anonymous Jun 27, 2007

according to hitachi guide, y-sus board should have vsc,-vy and vsetup. I get -vy(75 dc) but vsc (12dc should be 200) and vsetup(40 dc should be 190dc). Can not adjust?
All reading on the y-sus board

  • Anonymous Jun 28, 2007

i have the schematic. i have -vy (75volts) but no vsc or vsetup voltage on the ysus board. Can you help me trace source (can email you the schem/manual). The image that i get (color verticals) does not match manual's image for bad ysus board. Looks like the cable from formator to pwb. visual check cable ok(could still be bad). need to look at signals to pwb too.

This has been sitting for a while. Did premtech help you fix this via email, or is there still something needed on it?

The Tech you had come out could be dead-on from what you've described... It could also be a bad connector. I've attached a couple of photos here to my explanation. One is a picture of what I am guessing you see on your screen when you power it up. If correct, you could possibly take a look at a line connector between the joint and formatter power board yourself and see if any of this is damaged. To answer question more pointedly, (1) There are more than three boards inside, actually nine major board modules to be exact. (2) The Y SUS board, Hitachi p/n#TS05679, without going into great detail, determines the image position on the screen. (3) Cost - - Tritronics has this board at a list price of $436.22 and they are not as easy as they might appear to a layman to change...

Here's the location and connector you should carefully look at for ANY kind of damage... That is if the above is correct...

A defective Y Sus board will most often look like this... So the two are similar..

  • Anonymous Jun 14, 2007

If the last photo is more to what you have going on the tech you had come out is probably correct... But it's still worth the repair..

So if the first pic is exactly what you get, have you looked at the connector between the formatter and joint pwb? Examine that connection VERY carefully for ANY sign of breakage or nicks in the insulation. You'll have to really examine it closely...
The Z Sus board is on the other side by design. It has NOTHING to do with your problem.
I'm not really sure why you've rated this already, and with a rating not helpful?? Do you have all the info you need now?

Email me and I'll send you one..

Make sure to include the model number and what it is you want - I get more than 600 emails a day and it's VERY difficult to distinguish what problem with what model...

The Y sustain board is not your problem because you have a picture. The problem is most likely the controller board and or the XR or XL board. It would be helpful for us if you post a photo of the symptom. Good luck
