Question about Sony MHC-GX450 CD Shelf System

1 Answer

Help I love this stereo but recently it has taken an unhappy turn. When I play a cd it plays for about 30 seconds and then the whole system shuts down. I cannot turn it back on unless I unplug the unit. While it is shut down the power light just flashes red. The unit is on a surge protector, but I am beginning to wonder if that is the issue. Any and all ideas would be great. Thank you!

No, I doubt if the surge device is causing your problem. most likely there is a power supply issue, or a fauly with one of the servo or motor driver circuits. This is not a repair or a quickie fix for the end user I'm afraid. This unit is going to need to be taken into a repair shop to be diagnoised. Good Luck

My sharp cd-ba200 will barley play cds

Put the player On for few hours or overnight. Now remove the panel and get access to the optical head unit, use a clean ear bud to polish the optical head. If not the optical head is weak and must be replaced.

I have a memorex stereo, turntable, 3 cd changer etc. The standby light comes on but no sound, it is only 2 yrs old..

Sometimes you have to unplug it for about 30 seconds, then when you plug it in press the power on button. If there is still no sound, check the speaker connections on the back they sometimes come loose.

Harman Kardon Go + Play Portable Speaker Keeps Shutting Off

I just had this exact problem. I'm using an ipod mini. I solved it by docking the ipod firmly at the angle
the dock is at and have the ipod at an angle, not flat. I put the plastic and rubber adapter for the mini as instructed and also placed the rubber adapter for the nano upside down to keep
the ipod propped at an angle. (Also can use something similar to keep ipod propped up at an angle)
Took a while when I first used to figure out how the dock worked. The dock is a little weird how it is hinged to go from an angle to flat. Nothing in the instructions about this. By putting the ipod flat it would still have a connection to charge and play but the power shuts off every 10 minutes. I spent a whole night having it shut off every 10 minutes. This drives me crazy when systems have features like that which always seems to cause more problems (just my humble opinion)
By having the ipod at an angle I'm currently just now having it run an hour and 20 minutes and counting with no shut offs,(fingers crossed) but so far so good.
Saw on the internet that if the ipod is not connected firmly the system has an auto shut down. I think the ipod's weight propped at an angle keeps the connection firm. Also some said they want to see the ipod display, there you go!!!! This seems to be working so far for me, may be worth a try...I was about to return mine but I love the sound so I'm keeping mine now!!!! Works fine. Happy camper again.
Please reply if this works for anyone it worked for me.

Panasonic SA-AK17 MASH stereo system

That demo mode thing is painfully annoying. With mine, I had to hold the 'display/demo' button in for about 1 second and then the words "NO DEMO" appeared. That fixed it.

Problem with stereo playing cds

I'd be interested to know the brand, but you could try this:

(Assuming your CD player has only a standby button, not a full On/off button). Unplug the CD player from the mains. Leave for 30 seconds. Connect to mains and press eject as early as possible. Hopefully, this will allow the system to eject the CD before it starts trying to spin it.

Ultimately though, if it plays but won't open, it's likely to be a cog / gear on the drawer that has failed rather than some software fault as the CD plays.

Repair may not really be economical - depends on brand / value etc. If the disc is more important than the player you might end up attacking it....

Can't do anything - LCD screen says "PROTECT"

It may be that there is a problem with a fuse inside the stereo. It may say protect because the fuse has broken a connection that allows it to turn on. If the protect goe sup it is trying to help save the stereo from cooking its self, and give you a chance to get it fixed. If that is not the problem then it may be easier to just buy a new one, because a fix may be expensive if you don't have any warranties.

Wont play full length

The Ilo can only play 30 seconds of video per clip. I'm afraid the only real workaround is to trim the video down to 30 second segments and number them in sequence so that the videos play relatively seamlessly. Thankfully, Ilo had the foresight to include a CD-rom with video editing software on it to allow you to do this, but any video editing program that can manage AVI formats will work.
