I have absolutely NO idea how to use my built-in Telex microphone. I try participating in voice calls on msn, but it never works.
The microphone volume is not muted, by the way.
And I see/have no wires or jacks to plug in anywhere.

Select Advance under Microphone and check the Do not monitor check-box.
This way, you should be able to keep using the microphone without feedback from any speakers.
Go to the Control Panel, and click on Sounds and Audio Devices.
Under Device volume, click on Advanced.
Under Microphone, check the Mute button. If the "Microphone" section is missing, go to Options -> Properties, and under the Playback section, enable it.
You say the person at the other end so I assume you are using a messaging client (MSN, Yahoo, Skype etc). Check the audio set up in the client (it allows you to select the mic you want to use and test it).

Windows Messenger is a native Instant Messenger application to Windows XP. This application can be used to set the output device of your choice. In turn, this information will carry over to the MSN Messenger 7.5 application settings.
Launch Windows Messenger and execute the audio tuning wizard.
Go to “Start”. Select “Run”. Type “msmsgs” and click “OK”.
In theWindows Messenger, click “Tools” and select “Audio Tuning Wizard”.
Follow the steps which are provided by the “Audio Tuning Wizard” and select your desired Microphone & Speaker device.
Once this process is complete, close the Windows Messenger application. The configuration change made through Windows Messenger should now be set in the MSN Messenger 7.5 application.
