Presario s4000v Hi, I was given this computer and had it completly wiped out. Then I reinstalled win xp. Everything went fine except for no sound. Under the divice manager my video controller, and C-media AC97audio device have yellow question marks by them. I uninstalled the video controller then reinstalled it but no dice. What can I do next?

check your laptop for volume up/down buttons on the front

If you have a valid copy of xp pro, then just insert the disk and boot from it when asked. when you are asked about an install, choose a clean or new install and everything will be erased and you will start over. Be advised that you will need to get the lifebook drivers burned to a disk before you start.

I bought a presario from circuit city last year, and I paid $200 to downgrade to XP. Everything was fine until it crashed last week. IT went completely bizzerk. HP won't provide support, cause I changed it. Circuit City is out of business, not much help there.

Basically, I am completely #$%%@@.

I am now paying to get Vista put back in. :-(

i believ ur using 32 bit operating system.change the boot sequence by pressing F12 at restart and select cd/dvd rom option while the windows cd still inside the drive,,format the c drive completely{if possible format the whole hdd} and then reinstall the windows os xp..i hope it will work fine,,just follow the screen prompts very very carefully and u will find everything mentioned,,best of luck

The computer came with a bootable reinstall CD use that.

Kindly get me the drivers as i have installed xp in my compaq system. and i want drivers for that

it may be cycling, when the system reboots, press and hold the power button, to completely switch off, then turn back on as normal

open the control panel ,install sound driver and also check device driver view if the sound connect to computer.
