1 beep and won't boot...Strike F1 to retry or F2 for setup utility

MY problem is almost exactly the same as the previous person. I got the PC from a friend. And when I try to boot it up it beeps twice and then it says "Strike F1 to retry or F2 for setup utility" What could it be? Thanks

I listened to it again and it is 2 quick beeps like "beep-beep". I also tried replacing the lithium battery, as was suggested by the earlier post, but that still didn't solve it. I also tried removing the RAM and that didn't work either.

I had already looked at the beep codes before posting on the site. They don't seem to help too much because none of the beeps match.

    Please advise.

    Thnaks

I checked and it is listing all the drives (hard drive, CD, floppy). But it is still giving the error.

Here's a link to the Optiplex GX110's beep codes. I didn't see anything for 2 beeps. Listen again, carefully. Maybe the link will point you in the right direction. http://tomcat.yc.edu/servman/Desktops/GX110_UG/messages.htm

Hi, My name is Todd and I'm with Dell's online outreach program. Try booting into the BIOS (system setup) and see whether the system is recognizing the hard drive. When you power up the system hit the key at the Dell splash screen to enter System Setup. You can scroll through the various screens to see if it's listing the hard drive. If not, then either the hard drive is bad or the system needs to have it's BIOS reset. You can review the online user's guide for that system to see how to reset the BIOS / nvram. All the user guides are available on our support site, http://support.Dell.com. Let me know if this helps. Thank you, Todd Customer Advocate Dell, Inc. http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archive/2006/11/19/3648.aspx

I'm hard of hearing, so i'm not aware of how many beeps i got, so this may not be any help: but when i was getting the "Strike F1 to try reboot F2 for Setup" message, I didn't know what to do, so, I tried switchin the cables around, changing CD-ROM drive....the last thing I tried was changing harddrive, that got me to at least the Windows 2000 Set-up that i'm on now......HOPEFULLY i will be able to get the whole thing set up

Heloo sir i have a problem with my dell 170l when i start it it shows ''strike F1 to continue, F2 to run the setup utility'' when i click f1 it show ''f1 to retry boot,f2 for setup utility'' plz help me...

Hit F2,look in setup to see if the hard drive is recognized and check that the date and time are correct.
Then hit esc key. it will ask if you want to save changes, click yes. It should boot and probably ask you to hit F1 or F2 again., unless there is a problem with the CMOS battery, which may need to be replaced.
If you hit F1 to continue, it will boot, but your time and date will be off.

My Laptop is Dell Latitude D600 (A16) Everytime I tried to power up, Splash screen appears with blue bar and when going into next screen this message appears " No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry...

Check your BIOS, by pressing F2 and see if the hard drive is recognized. It should indicate the MFR next to the hard drive listing. If it's not there, then you might have a bad hard drive. If it is there, try re-installing the operating system with the set-up disk. You can also go to the Dell website, enter you service tag number, and get technical support for your particular laptop. It might have a recovery partition in the hard drive to recover to factory settings.

My dell 5125 indicates internal hard disk drive not found. it asked me to reseat the drive...than it indicates no bootable devices- i'm strike F1 to retry to boot and F2 for setup utility....nothing...

Try accessing setup utility and verify there if it still recognizes your hard drive, if not then that means your hard drive had crashed. If you have important files on the drive, you can try to recover it by going to a local service provider and have your files recovered, and of course you have to get a new hard drive for your dell.

My Desktop Dell Optiplex GX200 computer says Alert! Cover was previously removed. Strike F1 to retry boot . F2 for setup utility. I never opened my computer and when I click F1 it doesn't do anything but...

If it is not keeping time then you need to replace the computers clock battery. The battery is a cr2032 battery usually.
follow the below link for instructions on how to do that.

No boot device available- strike F1 to retry boot F2 for setup utility

you can try this steps to resolve your issue:
1. clean your disc drive with white cloth and alcohol
2. try to re-install the OS
3. if this won't work try to download another boot disk like EBCD
or ask a friend to create you a boot disc and try to boot your computer with it.

- This can rule out or confirm a Bad Windows OS disc, thus let's you install you Windows OS in the process.

4. try to re-install again the OS

Dell latitude C610

From the Bios, load all the default settings and then check the bios SATA port settings. If it is set to AHCI, change it to IDE to boot from Hard Drive. This should solve the problem
