First of all check the antenna connection, it could be dirty which causes more impedance at the higher frequencies than at the lower ones (uhf is higher than vhf), also hum could come from a power supply that can't produce enough current, does it get worse when you turn the volume up high? if so and you use a wall adapter, you might need one that has the same polarity and voltage but a higher current output, such as 400ma compared to 250 ma. If the power comes from a standard ac cord without the transformer (cube) at the wall outlet, then the internal supply might need a new capacitor in the filter circuit.

I turn on my Bearcat III 15x and I get no calls. But it scans, I have tried the weather option and it doesn't stop on the local weather channel either. What can I do to recieve call on the scanner?

Local Police, some fire and Ambulance, Sheriff and State Police have switched to digital mode which this scanner does not have the capabilities of decoding. To check to see if it works grab a family radio and have the scanner in search mode in the 460 mhz band. Start talking or keep the family radio transmitting until the scanner stops on the channel and talk to see if you hear anything. Another very active band is the ham radio band on 2 meters [ 144.000 - 148.000 . Scan that band and I am sure you will get activity. Very active is the APRS [automatic packet reporting system ] frequency of 144.390 which will sound like a bunch of buzzing tones because it is not voice but data and you can decode it. Another active part of the ham band is 146.520 which is the calling frequency. Fire / rescue seem to use both digital and analog, in my area analog is used 70% of the time. Why the weather band does not work is a bad sign. You should be able to get at least 1 channel. Try to search the 162.00 - 163.00 band. If you get nothing you may have a bad antenna, cable or a bad connector or all 3. You can check the antenna cable with a ohm meter to see if their is no shorts or opens. Hope this helped some and let me know how things are. Take care for now, Kevin

I NEED SCANNER CODES?

It depends on your location. Try this link http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db

You will also need to know if your state and city switched to digital.
If not then it should work fine, but if they did you will need a new scanner because you have an analog scanner. There is a big push to switch over to digital radios in police, firefighter, military because it's more secure to use.

Make sure you have selected the correct frequency range and radio band.

The bands are usually Police/Fire/Air Traffic/Marine/and Short Wave. Depending on your geographic location, you may or may not pick up transmissions.

Also try using the auto-scan feature to seacrh for chat, and adjust the squelch setting so you don''t choke out too much squawk chatter.

Motorola k7gt9500 police channel in manassas virginia?

Your Motorola radios operate in the FRS/GMRS band, which is at 462 MHz. Police, fire, EMS services, etc. operate in the 150 or 800 MHz bands. Your radios cannot receive public service transmissions, and they cannot be modified to do so. Monitoring public service transmissions will require a scanner.

We have a police digital scanner havent been able to receive the police frequency wonder if they have been changed? i dont want to have to pay for this service just need new frequency numbers if they have...

Your community's public service radio frequencies may have been rebanded. Rebanding was the result of services throughout the nation being moved in the 800Mhz band.

Complete rebanding details of this can be found here:

http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Rebanding

The Pro-2096 scanner can be reprogrammed to receive your old services in the new band with software that is run on your computer and connected to the scanner. It is available for a small fee ($30). More information on this can be found below:

http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Win96

Many scanners are not capable of upgrading, and were reduced to "paper weights". Consider yourself lucky that a $30 upgrade will restore the full functionality of the radio. A great deal of information on your scanner can be found here:

http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Pro-2096

I hope this helps!
