Question about Westinghouse LTV-32w1 32 in. HD-Ready LCD Television
The screen on my parents westinghouse lcd hdtv freezes when they try to change the channel for over the air stations. In the past unplugging the tv fixed the problem but lately that hasn't been helping. We've only had the tv since thanksgiving '06.
The problem is a software bug in their tuner. The tuner defect lockup problem only happens for the DTV over the air channels.
Unfortunately Westinghouse is not admitting to it as it would cost them a lot of money for a recall. Westinghouse fixed the problem on newer TVs but decided to do nothing on the ones they already sold hoping the customer A) would not notice in their 12 month warranty period because they have cable, satellite, or analog over the air (old TV channels, not the new DTV digital ones), or B) or the customer would think they had an antenna problem as customer service was directed to tell them that when they called in for the problem, or C) customer service was also told to tell customers "that was normal operation for DTV to lock up" with the belief that some stupid customers would beleive it. D) the In the event the customer insisted that it was a bug they would then send a RMA number by email (very slowly 7+ days later) hoping the customer would just forget about it. Then when the TV was sent in they would then replace it with a newer 32 inch TV.
This is a great class action lawsuit waiting to happen. This buggy tuner is in several models with over 300,000 TVs sold with the problem. Anyone know a good class action lawyer?

Had same problem with 37" Westy. Only on amplified antenna system. Never occurred with cable connection. Put an antenna attenuator on the antenna connection and problem disappear. Too strong a signal to the tuner apparently. I go through two 3.5 db splitters and one 8 db attenuator. Hope it helps.

We bought a Westinghouse TV it freezes up six or seven times a week. At the time we purchased it from best buy. We had the best buy tv guy come out, and he figured it was a board on the tv that needed to be replaced. When he called in to get parts he found that there are NO parts for it. We returned it and got a new one Model SK-32H240S thinking our problems would be solved, but this one is past warranty and also doing the same thing. I agree with the class action lawsuit because obviously Westinghouse doesn't care about its customers.

We bought this tv at christmas for our eldely mother. Freezes up six or seven times a week. At first our 87 year old mother didnt tell us about it. We found her in another room watching an old tv. At the time we purchased it from best buy, we also purchased the best buy warranty. We had the best buy tv guy come out, and he figured it was a board on the tv that needed to be replaced. When he called in to get parts he found that there are NO parts for it. We returned it and got a new one thinking our problems would be solved, but this one is also doing the same thing. Looks like another trip for the repair guy and then in to best buy for a different tv.

Then it should still be a warranty , have it repaired at an authorized repair shop for Westinghouse! If you do not, the digital main board will cost you more then what the set cost you originaly. Good Luck

I also have the SK-32H520S westy i paid $499 when it was on sale great deal btw. The normal tv channels do seem to freeze sometimes. Holding the power button for 8 secs seems to reset it. So this is normal and doesnt ever do it on anything else like ps3 or 360? Also i noticed the tv has a less chance of freezing if you turn the power option to energy saving. (completly turns off the power and uses only 1watt while when its on normal it used 20watts but boots up faster.) i think changing to multiple devices withing the time you boot it up can make the channels freeze to. I have the 4 year service plan for best buy anyone know how good there warrantys are on lcds?

I've got the same TV with the same problem. I contacted Westinghouse and they gave me the name of an authorized service center. In my case (Best Buy) same place I bought it. I am taking in to have it fixed...hopefully!

We have had our Westinghouse LTV-32w1 32in. HDTV- Ready LCD TV for about 3 months and it just started freezing up when we change the channel. To fix it we have to unplug it, but I don't like the fact that it freezes up.
same make: westinghouse, same problem: intermittent screen freeze when changing over-the-air digital channels, different model: SK-32H520S
coincidentally noticed red light from SPDIF OUT jack also unlit after screen freeze - perhaps related to overall lock-up of digital circuitry?
sometimes soft reboot (holding on/off switch) works, sometimes have to unplug/replug
i just bought a 42 inch lcd LG and i had it freeze up on my last week. i tryed to unplug it but it didnt do anything. it just kept freezing up after a second or so. i left it off all night and the next morning i woke up and it worked. i took it back to HHGREGG and they hooked it up to there tv's there and it worked fine.so i brought it back to my house and everything was going good. then exactly a week later it did the same thing. i tryed to unplug it but it just kept freezing on me. but what i realized is it was on the same station when it freezed up on me. (espn)HD. i have no cable box and it is hooked up straight from the regular cable wire. i don't have a big screen power surger, but i plan on getting one. do you think that is the problem or it is the cable or is it the tv. what do i do???
Same problem. Westinghouse 32 inch HDTV LCD. Problem started happening 1st month, so I called Westinghouse and they had me exchanged it with a new one from Best Buy (they acted like they never heard of this issue before). But, a month later, I started happening again. We use it about 1 hour per night, over the air broadcasts, and it freezes when changing channels almost every night (it is in bedroom, so it is a real hassle to have to get up from bed, turn on the lights and unplug it). I have been lazy to remove it off the wall mount to get the serial # for calling Westinghouse.
Anybody knows the reason and solution?
Bought my Westinghouse SK-32H240S in 3/31/08. Picture would freeze on OTC. Thought I needed a better antenna. Don't watch much over the air channels. All other inputs worked fine. Called Westinghouse, they said it was losing the OTC signal and I needed an amp for the antenna. I tried three different antennas including my original on the roof, same lock up. Even when the channel showed 9 out of 10 bars on signal strength. Called Best Buy, they sent the Geek Squad out. Tech wrote down serial number said it needed a new main board. Board was back ordered, then I was told they could not get it. Geek Squad gave the TV the No Lemon tag. Now I can take it back to BB and transfer what I paid towards another TV.
I have the exact same problem but on a 26" TV Model: LTV-27W7 HD
. TV works fine and cable and satellite but freezes almost immediately on digital over the air signals. I am an electronics engineer as as soon as I saw this problem it looked like a firmware bug (software bug in the tuner where the software gets stuck in a dead loop if any digital data drops out).
After the screen freezes the TV is completely locked up until the power plug is removed from the wall and then put back in. (no buttons work on the tv or remote unless the power is reset). Luckily I noticed the problem in month 11 so I still have 4 weeks warranty left.
I called customer service and they acted like they never heard of a problem like this. First their customer service told me it was normal for digital TV to freeze up. They said it was completely normal for my TV to lock up for over the air broadcasts. I informed them that I was not an idiot and it is not normal for a TV to lock up within 10 seconds of watching a channel and it is not reasonable to expect someone to keep unplugging their tv every 10 seconds. Next customer service said my antenna signal was weak and I should get an amplifier. Well I already have an amplifier and my other TV (not a westinghouse) has 95% signal strength and receives channels with no problem. So I told them that was obviously not the cause. Then they agreed that I would need warranty service and told me to wait for a RMA number to be emailed. Well that took several days but it did show up finally (I think they were trying to draw out the time so my warranty would expire).
I sent the TV 7 weeks ago and no repaired TV came back yet I call them every week and they ask me "how may I help you". I told them already 6 times that I want to know my TV repair status and when they are sending it back. But the only thing they can tell me is that they received my TV and no other info on it. And then they have the nerve to ask "how may I help you further." It is frustration to the maximum to call someone and the only thing they can tell you is they received it (which I already know from my ups tracking) and then ask endlessly "How may I help you further" with their reply to my simple question as "the system has no other information." I purchased it at the Costco warehouse so I am going to call them as they should not deal with a scam company like this. James
Same thing with my sk-32h240s Westinghouse LCD TV. Just like everyone, I called customer service and they told me it was my antenna. And now my warranty is over so looks like I am stuck with it.
We had TV unplugged for 3 months now can't find any channels on scan. And can't get connected to direct tv. It is 14 months old. Used very little in a bedroom. Bought at Target and bought extended warrenty. Called warrenty support and she said they would send box and packing for us to return tv to have fixed since over 90days and wouldn't replace at store. Indicated they had problems before. I thought she'd try to do some correction over phone but said just to send it back. Hope I get credit toward a different TV.
