Last night I was watching television and the tv just turned off. I turned it back on and about 5 minutes later it turned off again. Now when I try to power on, the standby light just flashes, but no picture or sound. Any ideas? Also, I bought the set in 1998, is it worth repairing (maybe rough estimate...)? Thanks for any help.

Re:
It is best you buy another set my friend it is not worth fixing the money you have for repairs and the cost for components put it together and you will get a good tv free of repair worries plus with warranty.if you get that set fix bam you take it home then about a week it is back in the work shop again.you will have to spend more money.a 10 year old set is not worth to have it repaired.replace it.good luck my friend.

If total dead (no lights on blinking etc) follow power cord into the set and find and check the main fuse--in this set it usually is a glass 5 amp fuse.
I have the exact same problem and am seeking a solution too ... it won't boot past the Vizio logo on the screen and the remote and side buttons won't work :(

I have two RCA HD52W59 TV's. I have had one for 3 years and one 4 years. The one I have had for 4 years is giving me the problem. Last week the tv turned off while watching it. It wouldnt come right back on. 10 minutes later we tried and it worked fine. the other night the kids were watching and it turned off and smelled like something burning. I tried turning it right back on and got no power at all. I tried to turn it on two days later and it made a buzzing noise and the green light went out. Never did get a picture, no powering up on the screen. Any ideas? Don't want to spend alot of money. Really loved the TV hope it isnt junk now. Better yet I hope the same thing doesnt happen to the other one I have.
