Altura 68" ceiling fan noisy

Our new Altura 68" ceiling fan has a motor hum on all 3 speeds. It's not too noticeable on Low, but is louder on Medium and louder still on High. Is this normal? I don't think it's a grounding hum; it appears to be just a motor hum. Can this be corrected or do I take the fan back?

we have tried two Altura's and both hummed. Hamton Bay said return them. We now have the third sitting in the box to try.

I just installed 4 of them and they ALL hum, absolutely LOVE the fans so I am not returning them. Luckily they are up pretty high so it's not terribly noticible except the one in the bedroom.

I also noticed the light doesn't dim, just on and off. Again, love the fans so its staying, I can live with it.

Altura 68'' ceiling fan only operates counter clock wise. Removed remote control function. Operates by 3 speed wall switch. How do I operate the fan in the clock wise position. Installed in 2010. It just...

If there's no reverse switch on the fan you won't be able to unless you put the remote back. Also, It should be going counter clockwise.

I have a 3 speed fan controlled by 3 speed wall switch; fan hums on low, louder hum on medium, and high position eliminates hum but speed reduced to low. Is it the fan or the wall switch?

Check the capacitor (black box with wires going to switch) and see if that's going bad. If it's not that, take the control out of the wall and just use the pull chain to see if it runs correctly. If it does, you need a new wall control. DO NOT USE A DIMMER SWITCH!

Fan won't reverse though it has before

It could be 1 of 3 things. 1) Receiver unit, 2) Sender (Remote), 3) Motor. For my brand new ceiling fan it turned out it was the motor.

Altura 68" fans will not operate on high speed.

I jtoo, ust bought The Altura (68" fan from home depot)
Home depot makes hampton bay through various chinese manufacturers.................
The fan ran slow on high speed, and barely ran on medium or low.
home depot gave me a number for their tech department that knew right away.....that the capacitor(s) are defective in many of the Altura fans.
They are sending the capacitors in 3 days to me no charge.
They are located under the fan ( remember the white square plastic plug you had to connect and the 2 wires for the optional light kit?.....)That plug is for the capacitors that everyone is having a problem with.
My guess is they are under rated for a fan that big and are sending better ones to those with problems.
Hope this helps.

Hunter ceiling fan-just installed -possible speed control problem

Sounds like the fan is defective. All internal wiring from the switch to the motor is factory installed. The fan has power going to it. Just to make sure, double check the wiring from the ceiling fixture to the fan.
Problem could be a faulty switch on the fan or faulty motor(bad winding for med. speed). Try reverse switch on the fan to operate the opposite direction and see if medium speed works. If medium does work in opposite direction, it pretty much points to a defective fan. In any case, unless you discover that the ceiling wires were reversed going into the fan, I'd say new fan to the returns dept.

Altura 68" Ceiling Fan

That's because it's 68" across, even though it uses the name motor inside as a 52" fan.

High speed only 60rpm

I too just installed a 68" Altura and noticed a huge difference in fan speed. I spoke to a rep for the manufactorer and found out that the high, medium, and low rpms are 70, 45, and 25. The typical 52" fan has rpm speeds of 190, 130, and 75. The kicker is airflow. The 68" moves 7,808, 4,417, and 2,953 cfms on high, medium, and low; the 52" fans move 5,503, 4,087, and 2,509 cfms.
