USB device I suddenly cannot use my logitech keyboard and mouse...getting the message...One of the USB devices on this computer has malfunctioned and Windows cannot recognize it....

What does the device manager say about the hardware?
It could be loss of the usb device controller. Windows XP is old and that is an indication that the hardware is old too.
I can confirm the same problem happened with me just now. I have TrendNet USB/KVM TK-207 and was flawlessly working with Logitech K260 Wireless Mouse and Keyboard Combo, but today on both computers all I can see is the error:
. USB Device not recognized - The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.
I unplugged the usb wireless adapter and connected it directly to the PC - it worked like a charm again. I have tried to connect the wireless adapter to the mouse port hoping that the keyboard USB port is causing problems, but all I got was the same error. I have tried to conect a normal USB keyboard, but again the same error I get for both - the mouse and keyboard, so it is more than obvious now that the USB ports of my KVN Switch are malfunctioning. I will try to leave it for a while if it got hot somehow as it was connected for more than 6 months working perfectly fine, but if not, I am heading to the store for support/replacement.
Ths problem occurs because of usb drvier conflict issue with your usb wireless dongle driver.
For that go to device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it will automatic install all driver.
Then go to control panel->add remove program and features then uninstall your wireleless keyboard and mouse driver then reinstall.
Then restart and check.
Also try different usb ports of computer for connecting the usb wireless dongle of keyboard.

Insert your operating system disc in to your cd/dvd rom drive, then go to my computer properties, now go to device manager and right click on keyboard or mouse what you want, now re-install your device from your cd/dvd rom, and restart your system.
Uninstall the Keyboard driver. Unplug the Logitech keyboard. Restart the computer. Plug the Logitech keyboard back into the computer. Windows should recognise the keyboard and/or the mouse. Place Logitech setup disk in drive. Reload the drivers...
The drivers sometimes corrupt themselves.. You might download the latest drivers for your keyboard/mouse.
Possibly a bad mouse. Either try another mouse on that same port or try that mouse on another computer. If you want to, try that mouse on another USB port on your computer
