Refrigerator and Freezer not cooling

Hi I'm hoping you can help us. As stated in subject fridge and freezer not cooling. We noticed the problem the other day. Not sure if it coinsides with the maid cleaning it out and of course leaving the doors open for who knows how long. Perhaps it has gone into a defrost mode??? The fridge is only 2 years old. It does have power to it. I unpluged it and waited at least 24hrs. before pluging it back in. Still no luck with it cooling down. Checked all settings.... I have taken the lower back panel off and noitced the fan is not running and the compresser is getting warm. The fan inside of the freezer is still running. I have most of the unit taken apart. The inside back panels in the freezer and also a cover that is inside of the refrigerator . I see some little parts with part numbers on them but not sure what may have burnt out or if there is a reset button for the defrost mode. Any help would be great Thanks Wayne

    Hi Catriver,
The fan is definetly not working, but not sure about compressor. It is warm to touch, but not making a lot of noise. there is sound when we plug in the refer, but don't know if that is the cooling fan in freezer?
you said that the divider between freezer and refer would be warm - the insides of the doors (where they touch) had been very warm.
I'm writing this for my husband who is out of town right now. Is there any way you could tell me the part numbers for the fan motor and the PTC? We live in Mexico, and my husband could possibly bring the parts back with him.
    thanks a bunch...
    Sharon

Great response, will order fan motor part and see if this corrects the problem. Thank you.

Wayne, lower back panel, the fan in back (condensor) should be running with the compressor. If the compressor is running,( you should be able to hear it) and the condensor fan is not running. Then the condensor fan motor is your problem. Another sign of a failed condensor fan motor is that the divider between the freezer and refer is extremely warm to touch. If the compressor is not running, it could be the compressor relay and overload (PTC) might be shorted. They made a bunch of these, white in color that failed quite often. Check yours out, it will be mounted to the front of the compressor. Take it off and shake it. If it rattles, there's your problem...Catriver.

Your compressor is probably running hot because the condensor fan motor is not running, part number 2188729. Catriver.

Hi Rob,

The problem in your case is most probably with the defrost thermostat.

It can be found on the evaporator i.e. freezing coils , it's round disc like with two wires.

If you get this replaced with a new proper working unit ,

Also make sure you replace the defrost timer as well if the problem persists.
Hope this helps ..:)

GE PSS26LSRE refrigerator\r\nfan is running, compressor is hot, but not cooling, please help

Please shut off the fridge for about few hours and then restart the fridge. If you notice that there is still no cooling from the freezer then it for sure that your compressor is not pumping or that your gas is run out. If however the cooling has returned then you will have to make sure that your thermostat is fine, the auto deffrost timer is also working Ok. You must seek help if your are not familiar with the work of gas filling or checking for leaks in the system.Take an estimate and proceed. Hope I could help;Good day

CDA CI785/2 fridge not getting cold in fridge part. but the freezer works ok

If freezer is working then you must check for the cool air to come from the freezer coils. Shut off the fridge and check for the working of the fan, check the ducts from the freezer to the fridge. once you have confirmed the fan and the ducts and have cleaned up the coils, you can switch on the fridge. Notice if the fridge is cooling now, if so check later for any timer failure for frost build up blocking the duct. Keep an average setting for the fridge and freezer. Hope you try this out.Good day

Fridge and Freezer losing cooling

we bought a f&p fridge freezer and in summer noticed it wasn't cooling and the freezer wasn't freezing, when the service guy came out he noticed our ducted air con was blowing onto the fridge, once we had redirected the air con outlet the fridge started working as normal, apparently f&p's work on air being convected around the cabinet of the fridge and air blowing on the fridge can effect the temperature of the convected air. hope this helps you or someone
