Change boot order for toshiba g20

In BIOS change the boot order such that CD/DVD comes first. You will also need to make sure your hard drive runs in IDE mode since Windows XP doesn't support sata drives by default. FYI XP is going end of life early 2014.

After insert the CD restart the PC and press F2 , F10 , F12 whatever is the case to change the boot order settings and select CD-ROM.Then start your installation from the CD-DRIVE.

Do you have Windows XP with servicepack 3 installed? If so then there is a known problem with the screen driver and XP sp3. Go bakc to SP2 and reinstall de display drivers this should clear the problem.

If anyone has working tident drivers for XP SP3 I would be greatfull!!

Install Proper Driver of sound card for your current O.S. is it Windows XP SP3 ?
First Unistall sound driver , then Reinstall New latest driver for your current O.S.

u need to first change the boot seq in the BIOS...
press Del/F1/F2 key to get into BIOS after u press on the power button
change the boot seq to
1 CD ROM
2 Floppy
3 HDD
now u need to safe this to BIOS
press f10 key to save the chnages in BIOS or use the save and exit option in BIOS menu to safe the changes
insert the WinCD(ensure it's a Windows install CD)
recovery or resuce CD of Win will NOT work.
if u need a goor Windows Install CD of XP,Vista, 2000
do a google search look for
"Torrent Piratebay WindowsXP SP3"
"Torrent Piratebay Windows Vista"
in the result list look for the above phrase of
"Piratebay"
download the Torrent link file(small 100kb file)
then
google and search BitTorrent
Download BitTorrent software and install it
use BitTorrent to open the 100kb torrent link file for the Windows OS that u got before
it will download an ISO file of say 400 to 700 mb depending upon which WinOS u download
burn that IOS image file to a CD using Nero or any ISO burner
use the CD to boot and install Windows

Try to get into SAFE MODE by hitting F8 as it boots.

There may be a driver that is incompatible with SP3.

If you can get to SAFE MODE, try doing a system restore to a previous restore point.

I personally hate automatic updates that are out of my control.

It sounds to me like a virus. Boot up from a recover cd or windows cd and reinstall freashly.

If you don't have a recovery cd, contact Toshiba for one. They go around for $40 to $50. If you can't get one, buy Windows Vista and boot up from that and reinstall.

Do you have XP or Vista installed on your laptop?
Does you laptop boot up into Windows?
What steps are you doing in trying to install the Service Pack?

You have to install the correct Service Pack for youe laptop, these were released in 2008.
SP3 is for Windows XP.
The service pack for Vista is SP1

you can restore your system to the nearest back date
