I had it plugged into my computer to add music and when I plugged it in, my computer said that it couldn't find a device driver, and now it is frozen.
Hold the power button for 10-15 seconds to hard reset it.

I am afraid the information you have been given is completely wrong. There is not such thing as plug and play in the android world. Android was initially developed for use on embedded devices and as such had no need to recognise external devices automatically. Version 2.1 (as installed on your device) is now quite old and cannot support it. Even the new version (froyo -2.2) does not support it.
Your device does come with a built in wireless adaptor, so you don't need a USB wireless adaptor.

I would guess that it overheated. You aren't supposed to leave them plugged in for extended periods of time.
