Hahaha very funny.. Well yeah I have no respect for the Sony W50, well yeah i do cuz I own the W100..
Nahhh I just bought it to, i dont know ,,well just to mess around with it.. But since the LCD is in perfect condition im gonna pass it on to a friend she has this camera W50 with a Broken LCD.. SO thanx's for your tip...

After smaking, twisting, slaping, pulling and doing every single thing your not supposed to do to a lense i figured it wouldn't work.

I have the same problem as camarita09's and I couldn't have put it better. However unlike them I haven't forced the lens and the lens is permanently sticking out and the camera wont power up. What should I do? Is it repairable?

My camera started off with the same problem, then it progressed into the state its in now, completely in inoperable. I thought it was just the battery that had gone bad, so i replaced it. Nope, the dumb thing wont turn on at all. I took it to a repair shop out in town (im a marine stationed in japan) and from what i could make out of their english was that the camera is junk now and to buy a new one.... I suggest you just throw away yours and do the same.

If you have 'Grabbed them and jiggled them around' Then I am certain the camera is wrecked and beyond repair. Very fine parts here and not intended for that type of treatment. Almost certainly a no repair job because there will be no parts available. Though you could try a repair shop. Time for another one then and this time treat with a modicom of respect.

Thats the thing to do - Keep it for spares.
Take care changing the screens over -you may have TWO piles of spares ;-)

Lens will not extend, keep getting "turn the power off and on again" message.

Try grabbing the end of the lens while its coming out. That might free up and realign the lens. If you hear a grinding noise when the lens is moving, than your gears are chewed up. If it needs repairs go to esupport.sony.com Hope this helps

Zoomlens stuck

Examine the lens carefully. you will see that the outer lens is out of line with the inner lens. . hold the camera firmly with one hand using the fingers of the second hand firmly nudge the outer lens back in line. reinsert battery and test.
Good luck,

Sony cybershot DSC-W50 lens problen

thats normal.
it just doesn't have enough power to bring the lense back in.
once you charge your battery and turn it on the lense will automatically come back in and then out for you to take a picture.

Digital Camera Fault

ACCESS error could happen when lens gets stuck but if it happens when lens moves back and forth without problem it usually means that where the lens assembly plugs into main system board connection is loose. These connections are held in place by a very small thin fragile plastic clip and a few drops could be enough to snap it but not do any other noticeable damage to camera. Camera would need to be opened to see if clip is broken or maybe cable just needs to me reinserted. Either way only open camera if no longer under warranty and you are somewhat handy

DSC-W50 sony cybershot

I had the same problem with my DSC-W55. I actually just called the customer service number on the sony website and they told me how to solve the problem.

- Take your battery out
- Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds
- Re enter your battery
- Voila.. it should work when you turn it on. Mine did.
