I have a sony w50 with an ovious problem with the lens.
When I power it on it says Access" then the lens moves and then it says " Turn the power off and on again" I do it and nothing happens. then I turn it off and the lens retracts but not all the way in the small lens goes in to the big barrel but the lens barrel stays out a bit.. then if i turn it back on ' both lens come out and i can grab them and move them aropunf they kinda giggle around... then if i turn it off and push gently the lens in it goes all the way into the camera body with no problem.. and sometimees when i push it in it tryes to come out again alone..!! so any help ....
My camera started off with the same problem, then it progressed into the state its in now, completely in inoperable. I thought it was just the battery that had gone bad, so i replaced it. Nope, the dumb thing wont turn on at all. I took it to a repair shop out in town (im a marine stationed in japan) and from what i could make out of their english was that the camera is junk now and to buy a new one.... I suggest you just throw away yours and do the same.

Re: Problem with lens
If you have 'Grabbed them and jiggled them around'
Then I am certain the camera is wrecked and beyond repair.
Very fine parts here and not intended for that type of treatment.
Almost certainly a no repair job because there will be no parts available.
Though you could try a repair shop.
Time for another one then and this time treat with a modicom of respect.

Try grabbing the end of the lens while its coming out. That might free up and realign the lens. If you hear a grinding noise when the lens is moving, than your gears are chewed up. If it needs repairs go to esupport.sony.com Hope this helps
Examine the lens carefully. you will see that the outer lens is out of line with the inner lens. . hold the camera firmly with one hand using the fingers of the second hand firmly nudge the outer lens back in line. reinsert battery and test.
It's probably stuck focus. Contact your local Sony service center, but
if they ask too much, you can contact me at [email protected]
and I will give you a good price.

thats normal. it just doesn't have enough power to bring the lense back in. once you charge your battery and turn it on the lense will automatically come back in and then out for you to take a picture.
ACCESS error could happen when lens gets stuck but if it happens when lens moves back and forth without problem it usually means that where the lens assembly plugs into main system board connection is loose. These connections are held in place by a very small thin fragile plastic clip and a few drops could be enough to snap it but not do any other noticeable damage to camera. Camera would need to be opened to see if clip is broken or maybe cable just needs to me reinserted. Either way only open camera if no longer under warranty and you are somewhat handy
