I have a Sony Receiver (STR-DE597P). Something weird is going on. I have it now for +- 4 years, and up untill now it has been brilliant. It seems that there is some sort of eart problem. I do not know a lot about electronics, but when I touch the receiver at the back it mildly electrocutes me. Even when I connect the speaker wires, it electrocutes me. Now, apart from this, the centre speaker channel randomly just "Dies". It just goes dead. Then if take out the black wire and touch it against the receiver, the sound is back. Then I put it back in the clip, and the sound works again. Then at a random time, the centre speaker dies again? Can someone help me with this?
HI...
You have a "ground loop" problem.
It's related to the AC wiring in your place.
I dont know if you have a Walmart or Home Depot type store near you but,if you do, go to one and ask for a AC circuit tester. Should be a 3 prong unit with LEDs. Plug one into where you have the stereo and see what it reads.
You might have lost a ground connection in the AC outlet
