Dear go to www.hp.com click on support and drivers then enter your product model now you choose your operating system and download driver free.
First install its software or driver only then you should attach your scanner (when your computer demand or required for its attachment).
Good Luck

Most likely the destination folder for the scanning is a shared folder with limited rights. As the administrator, reset the permissions for that folder or redirect the software to a common folder with read/write/creation etc... access.
Also, make sure you are using the HP provided drivers and not those from Microsoft.

If its a new computer, but with the same software, don't you think it would be the computer's problem???

It is not likely that there will be driver support for Windows 7.
That scanner is not even on Microsoft's compatibility list for Windows 7 and is listed as unknown on the compatibility list for Windows Vista
There was no driver support for Windows Vista listed on HP support page as well so it is unlikely HP will develop and Windows 7 driver.

Make sure driver XP ( yes , XP ) is correctly installed . Then , go to http://download.cnet.com/FreeKapture/3000-2094_4-10673689.html and install FreeKapture , it's free .
Load FreeKapture , clic on Scan and select WIA Hewlett-Packard . Scanner works fine in this mode . If you choose HP PrecisionScan Pro , program will hang .
In any case , no slides or negatives scans possible but the rest works .
If you have the W XP install disc , you could install a virtual version of W XP on your HDD ( http://downloads.vmware.com/d/info/desktop_downloads/vmware_player/3_0 ) You could also partition your HDD ( http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html ) and install W XP on the new one . Otherwise , you will have to buy a new scanner , what you probably have already done since a long time ago .
