Check the water level sensor and the lid safety interlock. Many washers will work fine with the lid open EXCEPT during the spin cycle, so this is the first logical place to look. Try bypassing the lid safety interlock switch.

SOURCE: Does not spin

Seems you need a lube job on the centrifical mechanical switch that fully engauges the spin cycle( part of the pully to shaft assembly)

SOURCE: Grinding sound during agitation cycle on my Maytag Performa

Its probably you stator plate and rotor. But you need special tools for this repair. There a spring that is under 200 pounds of pressure and if you take the screws off that hold the plate its going to fly into you face if your dont use the special tools to depress the spring. Is it more of a clanking kinda of noise? DOes it olnly happen with heavy loads? Try this out. Fill the washer with water only. and get it into a wash cycle with water only. If there is no noise then put in like a load of towels. A heavy load. Now if you hear the noise now then its for sure you stator plate and rotor..hope this helps, but like i said you need those special tools to do this repair or injury can result from the spring part.

SOURCE: maytag PAV2300AWW Washer makes grinding sound when agitating

Sounds like it is the bearing on the water pump. Take off back plate and replace and remove 3 screws and two hoses (the one hose is a waste line so make sure you have a bucket to empty our waste water) after removing these remove belt on bottom of pump.

SOURCE: Maytag washer, model: LAT8415AAE top loader. Washer fills with water but will not start agitating, spin or drain.

Check lid switch. Most will not run with lid open and the switch may not be pressed down when door is closed

My maytag washer model pav2300aww will not spin even though it agitates and drain but when it comes to the spin cycle it just kind of hums I looked at the bottom of the washer while it was in spin cycle...

Possible the revolution takes place on the top end of the pulley and belt but the centre stem of the agitator is not moving or it is slipping. It can be due to friction in the stem of the agitator due to clogging of dirt and the best option is to remove and clean the agitator.

I have a maytag pav2300aww top loader it fills up ,it spins and drains but it wont agitate i checked the pully it moves only one way ,is the trans hot ,can u turn it both ways

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. If you have a washer that has a weak agitation or no agitation at all, here are some possible solutions. You need to check your belts. Most washers have one or two belts. Check your lid switch. If a lid switch is bad, it can cause the washer to not work properly. Sometimes, they will not work at all. Make sure you check your drive motor. The drive motor controls the spinning, draining, and agitation. Most washers have the reverse motor, meaning the shaft rotates in both directions, clockwise and counterclockwise. It is possible to lose one direction and not the other. Some washers have a clutch that controls the agitation. If it is bad or worn, it may prevent the agitator to work. Most of these washers come from General Electric. You could have a bad motor coupler. They are located on the side of the motor drive inside the washer. It is also possible that you have a bad transmission. Check the agitator itself. You could have a bad spline or two. The splin accompanies the shaft and allows the movement of the agitator. If you rule out all the parts above, you may have an electrical issue or an issue with the control board. It is very important to test each part and make sure it is getting power. If a part is not working and not getting any power, the power loss may be the reason that it doesn't work. You can test the current in the wires with a voltage meter. Thank you very much for reading this tip and thank you for using Fixya

My washer fills with water, wont agitate but spins and drains

The agitate is a slow speed on a two speed motor. That said, there are several things
which can cause this. I have seen a bad connection on a motor plug do this.
This can often be seen as a dark spot on the semi- clear connectors.

Also a missing point on the timer (They can burn shut and pull off the contact). One way
to test the timer is to see if the washer will agitate on other cycle settings.

Third would be the motor itself. I haven't seen a partial failure ever.

One last thought, If you have a two piece agitator, the "Dog Agits" may be bad,
If you can grab the upper portion of the agitator and it turns freely back an forth, then
they have worn out. They are about 4 dollars. Take off the top plug/softener cap and there is a
bolt (usually 7/16th) that unscrews. Loosen this bolt counter clockwise and remove upper
assembly, The center part containing the agits can be removed and should be very
obvious as to their reassembly. Hope this helps.

Possible your outlet filter is blocked. This requires cleaning depending on your usage. Clean this out and refit. Good luck. Plug off the wall first.

Maytag washer will not spin

If your washer does everything but does not spin, it is your outlet filter which is blocked. Locate this and clean out, it has to work fine. Refer user's manual.
