I am having multiple issues with these printers. I have several of these at my job and here are some of the issues.
Reload paper....over and over
set ink cartridge even though one was set
blk ink will not read
An expert who has achieved level 3 by getting 1000 points
An expert that got 10 achievements.
An expert that got 5 achievements.
An expert who has answered 1,000 questions.
Re: Epson Stylus Pro 4800
Paper -check the feed track for debris- vacuum out.
Set cartridge -1.remove and reload.
2. get hold of a cartridge re setter call a ZAP-IT[Most ink suppliers] and reset the cartridges.
Black Ink- Purge the print head make a pump see illustration.

Finally reset the printer- through the ssc utility of by this
Switch the machine off.
Hold down a combination of several buttons and whilst held down
switch it on and hold down until the machine has started initialization[ Which buttons?- Tjough you ask that - different models different combinations

From your description, it sounds as though you have a faulty main board in the printer. This type of problem is unlikely to be software, but if you want you can try to reload the software. However I doubt it will help.
The unit will require a professional diagnosis to confirm as it will needed to be tested on a test pc in a registered service centre.
There is a slight chance it is the printhead, but I have my doubts about that also.
