Windows Live Messenge Cam Error

I have a Sony laptop with a built in cam. The camera works with other programs but when I try to use it in Windows Live messenger the message "We couldn't start your camera device. Please check that your camera is not currently in use by another program, and then try again" comes up. My camera is NOT being used by any other program when I try to web cam over msn... How do I fix this?? The problem occured with the older windows live, and so I downloaded the newest version of windows live hoping it would solve itself but it has not.

Yeah I already tried that. When i select that another box just pops up saying "we are unable to run video and audio setup".. i've given up. I already uninstalled and reinstalled my driver and uninstalled and reinstalled msn. Thanks anyways.

You need to configure your cam for msn

After you start Windows Live Messenger,
expand the view by clicking on the square
on top left next to the red X.
Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the
right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click
on “Show the Menu Bar”.
Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on Action.
Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting
and follow the instructions.

Are you sure your not using windows messenger instead of windows live

if your using windows messenger it won't work

you would have to go to control panel add\remove then windows components uncheck the box for windows messenger.

Then you will need to download windows live messenger

How do i install cam on my laptop?

hi,
DV cams, doesn't install, it is normally directly recognised as firewire cam (if what you want is to capture the recordings or live), you have to set in your capture program the right device...
now, if what you want is to use the hard disk function (memory stick) you have to light up the camera and then plug it in usb port, windows will recognize it as thumb drive (externat card reader )

Sir ihave laptop of ACER aspire 5552-5686 with window7 os my web camera of laptop does not work how it works give me tips.

Web cameras won't turn on until a program accesses them. Most laptops with a built in web cam come with software to take pictures and video.

Try clicking on the windows icon (start menu) and typing "cam" into the search bar. This should bring up the web camera application to test and make sure it is working. You could also use an application like skype or a website that allows live camera uploads like youtube (account required).

If this doesn't work, make sure there is a driver properly installed and the hardware is working in device manager (control panel > system & security > device manager tab).

Please leave feedback if this was helpful.

Web cam says to close other video streaming application before it can proceed but there are no applications open that I know of.

try and install the right driver for this device ...that's why it says this ...it sees all wrong ...the issue with windows 7 is that does not have drivers for cameras or elder devices....if it is a built in camera ....just try to get in touch with the manufacturer and see if there is any drivers for the camera ...also ...you can try the driver for vista on 64 ...usually works ..but this is not a rule...
if there is no other chance ..until the driver will appear on the internet ...just get another camera with driver compatible with this operating system ...or roll back to vista or xp ...cause this oS is not that great anyway ...its slow...hard t use...and strange...

My webcam stopped working all of a sudden. i used to yesterday and now it wont even open. what do i do?

Webcams are flaky, esp when using yahoo. Off the top of my head, I dont recall if your pc has a built in internal cam. A good thing to try is simply rebooting the PC and restarting the webcam. If that doesnt help, check the cam manufacturers site to see if the driver needs to be updated. Lastly, it might not be the cam after all. It could be the program that's using the cam, such as yahoo or MSN or whoever. Restart the machine first (thats likely gonna fix it), but if it still fails, try using the windows camera scanner option to snap a pic. If you can snap a pic, the hardware is ok, and you have a software issue. If however you try all of these things and still have failure, then you could have a bad USB cord (external cam) or a bad camera cable (internal built in cam). If you are under warranty, call Dell to have a tec sent out to replace your internal cam.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/ ) set it up as follows:

  1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
  2. Then click on the Video Settings.
  3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
  4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.

C. Windows Live Messenger:
Go to this site http://download.live.com/?sku=messenger and download Windows Live Messenger.

  1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
  2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.

Sony Vaoi built cam doest work on messenger

i have a gateway fx gameing laptop!! i was having probs with the cam going dark on me after a bit while using yahoo messenger..it was also freezing up but that i found out was cause yahoo SUCKS **** LOL...
i downloaded msn messenger, not msn live, and the cam works fine.. so it is yahoo.. i do know that sometimes my cam will sometimes go darker in resolution if i bend the top down a bit.. its doing that because the cam is thinking that im turning it off by shutting the laptop!
does the web cam work with the software it came with? can u turn it on and see urself when NOT using a messenger? if so then it might just not want to work with those 2 messengers which is weird!!!!!
MAKE SURE THAT U DO NOT HAVE THE PROGRAM SOFTWARE on that came with the laptop at the same time as trying to use it with the messengers!! see if that works and ill check back with you!

laptops did not come with the high end state of the art web cams! they were made for ease not for exceptional quality!

Acer Web Camara

Not sure how different the 4520 is from the 5920 that I use. I have a webcam built in and can use the camera with Skype, Live messenger or a video editing program I use.

For me I just opened those programs and clicked on the camera icon and it all worked for me.

Have you tried to use any of the above programs to see if the camera works?

I am assuming you have a built in web cam like I do.
