SOURCE: My PS2 will not play PS2 games, but it will play PS1 games

Hi
If it will play DVD's this is a good sign. You will only need to clean the lens of the laser. Also clean the hub that the Disc rides on.
I hope your in the right posting area, this is for the Phat PS2 consoles with the drawer that comes out to put the CD in. Procedure is different for Slim PS2.

  1. Disconnect power and turn the case upside down.
  2. Remove the screw covers to expose the case screws. These are little square pieces or square rubber pads. You can use a thin knife blade to pry the hard plastic squares up.
  3. Remove all the screws.
  4. REmove the Warranty sticker to the right edge of the power socket.
  5. Turn the PS2 over to set it right side up.
  6. lift the top cover from the back and pull it forward slightly to clear the CD tray. Be careful of a possibly Ribbon cable attached to the lid going to the REset/Eject buttons. Roll the cover over to the right leaving the ribbon intact.
  7. Remove the Cd tray lid.
  8. Polish the Laser lens, and remove any lint or hair from the Cd area. Use Alcohol and cotton swabs to clean the laser lens. By the way, Alcohol will damage a PS2 Slim lens. All lens are not created equally.
  9. Hook up the power and A/v Cables.
  10. REmove the little white disc from the Cd tray lid.
  11. Place a Disc on the spindle, and cap the disc with the little white piece that you removed from the CD tray cover.
  12. Boot up the PS2 and test it, Continue cleaning until you get it to work.
  13. Put it back together, and your in business.
If you have trouble you can send your PS2 to the Playstation Clinic for Repair. Contact [email protected]

SOURCE: PLAY PS2 GAMES ON PC

Ok, you want a full procedure here it is. First of all if your computer does not meet the following specs stop reading cuz you'll be wasting your time trying to get it to work and will be very disappointed by the quality of game play:

Minimal Specs:
AMD 64 or Intel Pentium 4 (VM Build will not work with non SSE2 CPU's)
512MB of RAM
Pixel Shader 2.0 supporting card

Recommended Specs: (For reasonable performance in many games, but not all)
AMD64 X2 or Intel Conroe E6600+ (Multi Threading is supported in PCSX2)
512-1024MB of RAM (more RAM allows for VM mode to be stable)
Pixel Shader 2.0 supporting card (recommended GeForce 6600-8800 or equivalent ATi card)

Possible Ideal Specs:
64bit OS such as Vista or winXP64, to allow for future support of 64bit recompilers.
Future AMD or Intel Quad Coremaybe needed, but currently the support of 4 threads is not handled byPCSX2, and the effect of threading out EE / VU is not yet known.
We don't forsee you requiring a GPU more powerful than the current generation of cards, up to and including the nVidia GeForce 8800.

Also note, if if have just a standard AMD Athlon (non64) don't even bother trying to run this emulator. It does work but is very very slow.

If you meet at the very least the minimum specs go here and download PCSX2 Binary. .::CLICK HERE::.

This is the BEST PS2 emulator currently on the net. There is NONE better.

Next: as with any emulator you need a BIOS in order to use it. There are several methods to getting a PS2 BIOS. You can google "PS2 BIOS download" or check torrent sites like this one .::HERE::.and do a search for "PS2 BIOS". At any rate, get 1 or many BIOS(one for each different area ex. Japan, US, Europe)

Next: Un-7zip the PCSX2 7zip. Take the BIOS.bin files you downloaded and place them all in the folder, "bios" in the PCSX2 folders you unzipped.

Next: You'll notice two icons that look the same one is called pcsx2.exe and one is called pcsx2t.exe. I have had no luck getting anything to play worth a **** on pcsx2.exe. I use pcsx2t.exe. According to the person who made this program, pcsx2.exe is a faster emulator version, but he says that AMD people have had better luck using pcsx2t.exe. So, if your computer has an AMD processor try the pcsx2t.exe first. But keep what I said in mind cuz you may have to use the other one instead. In either case, choose one and run it.

Next: When the program opens, it will have to be configured. Look at the top of the program and click the, "config" menu option. Next click the, "configure" menu option. You are now faced with several configuration options. I'm not even going to bother explaining what each option does, go .::HERE::. it explains what everything does. 9 times out of 10 when pcsx2 won't work, it's cuz of a bad configuration. SO MAKE SURE YOU READ THAT WHOLE PAGE.

As you can see there two ways you can load a game. Either by turning the game itself into an ISO or from using your DVD-ROM drive.

As far as controlers go, you can purchase USB PS2 look alikes from most computer stores. You can also get PS2 to USB converters that you can plug directly into your computer. And there is even a SIAXIS driver floating around on the internet that will run a PS3 controler as if it was a standard computer game controler. If you don't have money for a controler or what not just use the ZeroPAD option under, "First Controler" and start binding keyboard keys to assigned slots.

As with any emulator nothing is perfect and this will not play every single PS2 game out on the market. However, this is the most current emulator in production atm and is the furthest along. When you get everything up and running you'll want to look ..::HERE::. at the compatibility list to make sure your game is registered to even work with this emulator.

Hope that helps,
L8er

SOURCE: how to play ps2 games on pc

Contrary to what Revage has said, talking about this issue is not "a crime" Let's examine the facts and you can conclude this for yourself.

If you seriously think talking about such things is a crime then look at all the sites that are still up and functional that propagate how to build home made explosives or things of this nature.

However that is still too vague, let's examine this particular issue by it's facts alone.

If sites like http://www.pcsx2.net/ were a crime, don't you think Sony would have nipped this whole thing in the bud starting with the first two emulators created (Bleem and VGS)

Bleem and VGS were even sold in corperation stores right with other computer software. To wich Sony sued both them and Connectix's VGS.

"Ultimately Sony sued bleem! out of business after it lost its case toConnectix. bleem! simply ran out of money to defend itself. Even afterConnectix won their infringement case where they had used thePlayStation BIOS, bleem! never used the PlayStation BIOS and was thus"less guilty" than Connectix who were found not guilty."

"Two days after bleem! started taking preorders for their emulator, Sonyfiled suit against them alleging that they were violating their rightsand that providing access for PlayStation games to run on non-Sonyhardware constituted unfair competition.
Ultimately bleem! won in court and a protective order was issued to "protect David from Goliath".[1]Sony lost on all counts, including bleem!'s use of screenshots ofPlayStation games on its packaging. The court noted that bleem!'s useof copyrighted screenshots was considered fair use and should beallowed to continue.
Despite the legal victories, the legal fees allegedly forced the company out of business. eBayauctions of some of the company's possessions were held soon after -including a huge library of worldwide game releases apparently used forcompatibility testing."

First of all downloading and using the emulator IS NOT AGAINST THE LAW. Certain conditions have to be met in order to make this statement true however.

1.) You must own a Playstation 2

2.) You must "dump" YOUR PS2's bios and only use that bios in your emulator.

3.) Any game you play in the emulator you must have purchased and own.

I can post where to find game downloads and bios's all day long. That is not against the law. Just frowned upon. You using them without having ownership of the game or the PS2 that the bios was dumped from, is. Even from the quoted material from wiki shows you two examples of where with even resale of a BIOS, Sony still couldn't win a case against either emulator.

Since I have thus proven that talking about this is not a crime. Nor even implication of what is talked about is not a crime(as long as conditions are met). I would suggest you go ::.HERE.:: where I have already talked about this and posted all the info that you're looking for.
