You'll have to call in a tech to check it out or replace the dryer, nobody can answer that question without being there and checking the dryer with a meter,if the wires from the timer touched metal and i can't see how that happened unless someone worked on it without unplugging it you could have cooked just about any wire or part that those wires go to but then again you could change the timer and it could work but you have to check it with a meter first, that timer cost around 140 dollars,to much money to just guess at.

Chain saw starts but cuts out as soon as i press trigger

This I just a wild guess but here goes.
Most chain saws have a on off switch located fairly close to the throttle. The switch kills the engine by grounding out the wire attached to it. If the insulation has been rubbed off the wire and the metal linkage for the throttle touches it it will short the wire to ground and kill the motor the same as the switch. Remove the air cleaner cover and check wires for bad spots .tape up any bare spots and relocate wiring away from throttle linkage if necessary .
Hope this helps.

When I connect the 240 volt motor directly to hte GFCI breaker it works fine, however when run throough the time clock, when I turn on the breaker, it trips the breaker

You have T104 timer that controls 240Volt motor.
You have 240Volt GFCI breaker.
GFCI to motor works fine.
GFCI to timer trips breaker.

Either timer is wired wrong, or ground fault in the timer.

Open following links to review wiring:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/images/T-104-control-240V-Load4-35.jpg

1) Make sure clock motor wires are on terminals 1 and 3, and that clock motor is 240Volt WG1573 and not 120V WG1570
2) Try connecting GFCI hot leads to terminals 1 and 3 and don't connect wires to motor.
3) Click manual override both directions and see if a short appears.
4) Remove ground wire from timer but leave power connected. Test metal timer body to ground wire to see if there is power flowing to ground.
5) Unscrew clock motor from body, and make sure clock is not touching metal body, repeat test to ground to see if clock motor is bad.
6) Remove small white wires that power the clock, to test if clock is shorting. Replace WG1573 if clock is bad.

7) Connect 240Volt motor to terminals 2 and 4. Click override back and forth. Then reverse wires to 4 and 2.

Dryer timer works but start button doesn't and wont turn on

I would check the door switch. If it's bad, the dryer will not run. You can check it by taking the two wires going to it and tying them together. Be sure to tape them together so they will not touch metal and short. If the dryer runs, replace switch. If not you most likely have a bad thermal fuse and or thermal cut off.

Hoover 1200 front loader washing machine is tripping mains ecb

you have a direct short circuit unplug the machine and remove the plug cable cover then: look for wires touching or, wires touching the metal of the machine the plug wires should only touch their respective screws if these are alright then take a multimeter set it for resistance (ohms) place one probe on a plug pin and the other probe on one of the other plug pins if you see continuity you have a short check all interior wires until you find a blackened burned wire etc. when you have high continuity you have fixed the problem
