I have just bought a Pan dmr-ez49veb after my diahatsu combi finally conked out & is now apparently obsolete.I have lots of taped off TV stuff on both dvd+ & dvd- not really knowing the difference & as both worked on the dia,not really bothered.I find though this Pan only plays the Dvd+ discs & says the Dvd- ones are IncompatiblE even though the instructions hint this disc ShoulD be More compatible. I,m not technically minded so finalising, burning & downloading go over my head & the thought of taping of those progs again turns my stomach,Help?
I would suggest contacting Panasonic support. You can search for their website/home page for their contact numbers. Typically, manufacturers maintain help, support, upgrade, forums and FAQs/knowkedge bases to help customers troubleshoot their appliances/equipment. I have used similar methods, previously, to update/upgrade the firmware on an "obsolete" DVR and it has lasted 4 more years (still working).

I have three Panasonic DVD recorder/Vhs combos and I get the same problem from time to time...it may be the disks you are using. Mine absolutely hate Sony disks. I have the best luck with TDK or Maxell. You also must clean your unit frequently, if you do alot of recording. I use my units daily.
Hope this helps

When you say downloaded movies are they avi's, vob's mpegs, mov's or windows media files? Which files are you using on the cds? what software are you using to burn the discs? When you burn onto cds are you creating VCD's or just data discs. When you burn onto a RW disc it cannot be finalised. I think you are possibly either not using mpegs or vobs or you discs are not being finalised. (When i say vobs i mean dvd compiled and compatible discs)

this unit has an optical-eye, not recording heads. opening the drawer then unplugging unit will expose the eye. never look into the eye when unit has power. this x-ray can and will burn your owh eyes lens&retina. good luck. clean with 90% isopropyl alcohol and q-tip. mch

Check Panasonic.com for Firmware updates. If it has a reset button reset it. Take off the cover remove dust and lint, also clean laser eye with rubbing alcohol. DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE LASER LENS IF YOU PLUG IT IN, DURING THE OPERATION.
