After using the TV for about 6 years, one fine day all we could see on the TV was a bright horizontal line across the screen. A couple of times the image did return to normal for less than an hour and then went back to a bright line. We can't watch TV or video's. My father-in-law had an exact similar problem on another brand tv in India and mentioned technician found a lose contact on the PCB, had to re-solder a connection and it works fine now. Anyone knows how and where to fix this?
A line running across the screen like that and then returning to a picture I would guess is the vertical IC has some poor solder joints. The vertical IC in that unit IC401 is an LA78041 a seven pin IC that is mounted to a metal heat sink. On the foil or under side of the board take a careful look at the pins of that IC and any that look suspicious carefully re-flow some solder over.. Careful not to keep your iron on the pin too long.. And if have to re-solder several take some time between them to allow the IC to cool so you don't damage it.. Good Luck Bill

I think this is exactly what they did to fix the TV set I mentioned earlier. I barely have any technician skills to do the re-soldering myself.
Do you think this will done by a TV repair shop at relatively low cost?
Although mine is a 32" I am having the same problem and my set is not quite 2 years old and when I contacted a service dept. they wanted $200.00 flat fee for labor and additional charge for parts, if we want them to come to our house and fix it, it will cost and additional $75.00 to $100.00 to come. My husband is great at soldering and mechanical things, I'll show him this website and have him take a look, it's worth a try.
Thanks!
