Picture Problems After we have our TV on for a short while, a solid black box pops up on top of the picture. The box covers the middle half of the screen and has a series of different letters inside the box. The picture continues to be visable and the only way to rid the picture of the box is by turning the tv on and off. This works but we may have to turn the tv on and off several times a night. What is this and how do we get rid of it?

Closed Caption is turned on. Go into the menu and simply turn it off and this will take care of your problem.

LG 32LH30 LCD TV Problem

IMO Seriously for $119 it's not worth it.
However, it does sound like a capacitor problem
If you are "Serious" about fixing I'd find a TV repair Forum.
Else I'd go here and get a new one.

Black box in middle of screen

It's a text box for either closed captioning or demonstration mode. Go into the setup menu and turn off closed captioning. If you have trouble doing that, then just restore factory settings.
