Have you tried to reset the camera to the factory default settings? There may be a setting that has the flash disabled. To reset the camera: have the camera in shooting mode - press Menu - left arrow to reset and press Ok. You will see Reset Yes or No. Highlight Yes and press Ok. This will reset the camera to factory settings. It will not affect any images that have already been taken. See if the flash is able to fire now.

I'm having the same problem with mine. I have tried all flash settings and I have reset it.
On the LCD monitor, after I take a picture, a lightening bolt flashes red once then goes away. No flash however.
Is this repairable?
The flash does not work on my FE-230 either...tried resetting as suggested ...did not work for me!!
Also have no flash all of the sudden, I did reset, as suggested, but it didn't help; I get a red flash arrow and a green dot which appear right as the photo is being taken.
i also have the same problem. and resetting the camera did not solve the problem.
