HP DeskJet 5650 InkJet Printer Logo

I want to check ink levels on an HP deskjet 5650 with Windows 7

The HP Toolbox no longer exists with the Windows 7 driver. Besides flashing lights on the printer itself, there is no way to gain any information about ink volumes.

Find another computer (laptop?) that is running Windows XP or Vista. Install the HP device-drivers.
Connect the printer to that other computer, and use the software to display the ink-levels.

Can no longer check my ink level.

Sometimes Windows 7 drivers need to be downloaded from the HP support site. Also, make sure you have installed the application on the CD that came with the printer in addition to the printer drivers. That is what you would have run under Programs before. If your Windows 7 computer was not used to manage the printer before, you will need to install the HP management tool on it in order to see ink levels.

There is no icon on the taskbar, and I cannot figure out how to check the ink level.

The HP Toolbox can be used to check ink Levels

  1. Right-click the taskbar printer icon .
  2. Click Open HP Deskjet 5550 Series Toolbox .
  3. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab.
  4. Check ink levels (estimate only, actual ink levels may vary)

It says that to see the level of ink in the cartridge you go to preferences and get a service menu. My software for HP injet 5650 does not have this option. How do I get it? Bill

It depends. What is your OS? If you have Win7 or Vista, you installed the basic driver in the OS. That does not include the full featured HP Toolbox and HP Solutions Center. You need to check the ink levels by printing a test page or an ink low monitor on the printer (either a light or a LCD screen display). For those OS's that have the full-featured software available, make sure it is installed and running (if you installed the basic driver, uninstall it first).

For information see: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=304445& and select your OS.

I hope this helps.

My HP 5650 will not display its "device status box". I want to see an ink level. I tried typing "msconfig" at the "run" prompt and was not able to find unchecked box with any "HP" label. I need to...

With printer on and ready, from the HP Solution Center software:

Click <Settings> button (left side)
Choose Print settings > Printer Toolbox
Click "Estimate Ink Levels" Tab

Where can I download the deskjet 932c toolbox?

try downloading complete driver and software from HP.

You can open the door and the ink will go to the smily face or the frown telling you ink is low or good.
