after taking the picture, review, then press menu and go thru the edit window,,,select black and white

You can't, there is no black and white mode on the D50. You will need to take color photos and convert them with photo editing tool.

Doesn't matter if it does or not. Just use free software to change any of your pictures from color to B&W. I use Picasa3 free from Google. Google Picasa3 and download free software. It is great.

The SP-700 does not allow you to take photos in black&white. It will let you convert color photos to black&white, however. See the "Editing Still Photos (REDEYE FIX/BLACK&WHITE/SEPIA" section in the advanced manual (page 78 in my copy).

White line on viewing screen
If the line is also on your photos it is a bad censor assembly, if the line is just on the LCD than the LCD is faulty. Either way you are looking at a trip to the repair shop.

The SP-810UZ has no provision for taking black&white photos. However just about any photo editing program will convert color photos to black&white. Doing so on a computer actually gives you much more control over the process, allowing you to control brightness, contrast, and other factors, instead of relying on some defaults determined by a camera designer. And if you happen to encounter Bigfoot getting out of his flying saucer, you'll have color photos to sell to the tabloids :-)

The SP 800UZ doesn't have a black-and-white or sepia mode. You can convert a color picture to black-and-white or sepia by editing the picture on the camera. Full details are in the "Edit" section of the manual (page 38 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one from the manufacturer's web site at

In general, you're better off converting to black-and-white or sepia using photo editing software on a computer rather than doing it on the camera. The computer will give you much better control over things like brightness and contrast.
