I cannot see myself in my laptop's built-in webcam

Yes, you can use your web cam in any form of chatting. For example, install yahoo messenger and use it when video chatting. Activate yoi webcam by viewing my webcam icon. and it will display your image. For your chatmate to view. Invite him to view your webcam and you can not start video chatting

you can not see yourself on your webcam but your friends can see you on their webcam

depending on your IM program you can invite others to view your webcam... if you get a message like 'unavailable' or something like that go to the options of that program at webcam and look at 'Camera Source' ..there is a short list and you need to choose your built in camera..it`s name should be on that list..then hit Apply..and that should be it!

if you have the webcam center opened along with with msn then it wont work on either one of them.
you can try these steps tp check if it works for you or not.

1)look for the web cam center system tray icon and right click on it if its there and select exit

and as u said u cant see you self in web cam console --- in webcam console you can only see your self under the doodling tab and only of your webcam is working at that i.e

either you have the webcam center opened or any other messenger or software which turns on your cam then only ull be able to view your cam in webcam console alongside.

if you are using Yahoo or MSN just open a chat with a friend or a confrence with alot of friends and turn your webcam on and then once in chat goto options and click view webcam that lets everyone just click on view web cam next to your name and then you can clcik accept for all those you want to view your cam

Is's ok to have only one cam.

You can see the video from your oposite if they have a cam.
Or if only you have a cam the other party should be able to see you.

Hey Dores this is my first post so I hope it helps. You might want to post a little more information about your problem. Does the web cam work outside of Yahoo messenger? Has it ever worked before? Also, you being able to see your friends does not depend on whether or not you youself have a web cam. If you answer these questions I may be able to provide you with a little more assistance.

There should be an icon on your desktop for the webcam, if not try checking in your device manager to see if it is enabled..go to control panel>system>hardware>device manager It should be under the imaging devices.
