This was bought 7 years ago. I had it lees than a year and it quit working. The store where I bought it fixed it ( not for free!!) The turntable is going in the oppisate direction but the fan, light, clock etc is working fine. Is it worth trying to repair it ? I bought a GE oven bottom element went out after 3 years, my GE dishwasher quit 6 months ago, I am not a fan of GE products!!!!!!
Don't open one of these unless you are aware of the hazards. Unplug and discharge capacitor. If you don't do this, the shock WILL be lethal.
the schematics are tightly tucked in the topside under cover. Test in this order with a multimeter continuity; thermal cut out, fuse, thermal cut out, thermal fuse, all three door switches. (There are two NO and one NC). If all checks out and unit powers on it is relay, hv transformer, hv diode, capacitor or magnetron.
all of this checked out with a multimeter. I replaced the magnetron and it works. Just bc a part passes a test, something more in-depth like a magnetron may pass but actually be a failure point.
best
These microwave ovens have a series of door switches. One of yours has gone bad or a plastic finger on your door mechanism that pushes the switches is worn or broken off. They are commonly called NC or NO swithes some ovens have up to 6 of these working together. If you have no expertise in this field consult a repair shop. Please rate me
Comment posted on Jan 12, 2009 there are two types ,normally open and normally closed, NO NC . u have to check continuity on each one and each switch will have a diagram on the side showing its in use position. I hope this has been helpful
