You might be more successful if you provided a little more information. Is your computer a Windows PC or a MAC? Have you tried connecting the camera to the computer via the supplied USB cable? Assuming you're using a Windows machine, you can simply transfer the images using Windows file services, without needing to install any additional software. When you connect the camera to the computer via the USB cable, Windows recognizes the camera as a removable drive and assigns it a drive letter (e.g. drive G:). An icon for the "drive" appears in your MY COMPUTER window. (a) You double-click on the MY COMPUTER icon - (b) double-click on the drive ICON that represents your camera - (c) locate the folder where the image files are stored - (d) and simply drag the folder to your desktop (or wherever you want the images on your computer's hard drive). If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you need help with basic computer usage. If you're having a problem with the USB connection (e.g. the computer doesn't recognize the camera) then you should provide some more details about this problem.

My coolpix5200 I can not transfer pictures to the computor asking for disk I do not have it

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Nikon Transfer or Picasa.

Computer sees camera as storeage device rather than as imaging device. Running Windows XP Home Edition. Camera is Nikon Coolpix 5200. Have downloaded latest Nikon software. Have talked with Nikon...

According to Nikon specifications this camera uses USB only to transfer pictures and videos, not for video streaming or taking pictures (image device), but you could test if it changes opearting mode by setting USB option to PTP in the setup menu (by default is set as Mass storage).

There are also plenty of photo catalog software packages out there, some free, some not, that can transfer and catalog your pictures so you can quickly find pictures from Susie's birthday party, for example. Just do a google search for "photo catalog software".

Coolpix 4300 needs driver & update for vista

this solution was originally written by a fellow expert dauphine

You can download PictureProject software from this address: http://chsv-soft.nikon-image.com/jpn/software/win/S-P2____-175WU-JPNJP.exe

That is the only Nikon software that supports Vista since your camera is "outdated".

Here is a quote from Nikon site:

  • We had released a Windows Vista-compatible version of PictureProject, v1.7.5, for use with the models listed below, and all models that followed. PTP (models supporting the PTP protocol) and Mass storage USB transfer options can be used for camera connection. However, the camera's transfer button can not be used to transfer pictures over a PTP connection. Set the USB transfer option to Mass storage to enable the camera's transfer button.
Currently, the new Nikon Transfer and View NX will replace Picture Project as our new Image Transfer and Browser applications. These applications support the same Nikon products as Picture Project.

The blinking red timer means that the date isn't set on your camera. Go to the set up screen and set the date. I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to take pictures, though...
