Unfortunately, Quantaray is no longer in business, so there is no service department to go to in order to get something like that fixed. And replacements leg locks are not available. It sounds like you have a worn out screw or spring in your leg lock. You might be able to find a new tripod of a similar size and shape here if you can't find a replacement anywhere: www.itripod.com

Give me a call if you have any questions.

Is there a "lock" position on on the 3 leg spread of this tripod?

-Providing that the image shown is the tripod you own..., the top leg lock levers on each leg is designed to lock the spreader angle of each leg.
-If this is not holding the leg at the correct angle...., either you are putting more weight on it than it was designed to hold..., or the 'cam' on the various locks has worn.
-A 'stop gap' fix for this problem is to insert a very thin wedge between the lever & the leg tube..., thus providing a greater amount of pressure on the tube, (this would need to be done every time the tripod is set up).
-Replacement parts are not available for this tripod & they were not designed to be user serviceable ...., sorry!!!

Legs Locks Loose

Ross
-It is possible that you are overloading the tripod, thus causing this problem (check specs on tripod model)
HOWEVER IF YOU AREN'T....Giotto uses (2) different leg lock designs..., quick release (normally adjusted by a socket wrench) or rotary (screw locks)!
- If tripod uses screw locks, sometimes foreign material gets into the mechanism and either damages it or prohibits from tightening!!!!!
Note: rotary locks are easy to maintain & if you need parts..., they are user replaceable and usually inexpensive! (contact Giottos distributor in the country you live in)!!!
BUT FIRST!!!! (often problem is caused by dirty lock mechanism)
-carefully unscrew the leg lock (that is slipping) until it separates from the leg higher leg section & carefully pull out the lower tube (at the top of the lower tube will be 'shims' that are part of the lock mechanism).
-Look closely at existing 'shims' do they show signs of cracking, of a build up of dirt, etc. (if damaged they will need to be replaced)
-if shims are undamaged..., use rubbing alcohol & a clean cloth to clean shims and both the tube they sit on and the inside of the tube they slide into.
-once both sides of the tubes and both male & female threads of the locking mechanism are cleaned..., place a light coating of a light oil into the threads (sewing machine oil, bike chain oil, etc)...., do not get oil on the shims!!!!!
-replace locking shims back into position and carefully slide leg tube back into place..., then screw locking collar on (this should not take any force..., if while threading lock collar back on..., it seems tight..., back off collar and check positioning of shims). Repeat procedure!!!
TEST RESULTS!!!
Note: in most cases with rotary locks, problem is purely a maintenance issue, cleaning usually fixes the issue!!!

Leg stuck on Manfrotto 732CY tripod

Other than the leg locks themselves, sometimes Manfrotto expands the last portion of the leg tube that slides into the leg tube above it. If you need some spare parts you can find them here.

bogen and manfrotto are the same company

I have a Manfrotto 058 tripod. One leg wont hold weight & retracts under load. This model uses a quick release lever at the top of the leg to control the telescopic height of each leg. How can I repair...

If you notice, the legs locks are attached to bothe the upper part of the leg and the sloghtly smaller diameter lower. Take a socket (8mm I believe) and tighten the lower 2 nuts to the bottom of the leg lock.

Reassembling telescopic sections for a 676B monopod

Each leg lock has a leg locking lever and a screw that hold the clamp assembly tight to the leg. Unlock the leg lock lever, loosen the screw above it that holds the clamp tight to the leg. The legs should fit into each other sice each leg is slightly larger or smaller then then next one. Slide the clamps in the approprite places and tighten the screw enough to hold the clamp assembly tight, but do not over tighten it. Over tightening will damage the 679 tubes.

VIBRATION

It should have should leveling legs under it. Screw upwards all the legs. Means your washer is now at its lowest level. Shake the washer with both your hands. Adjust the leg where the shake is, upwards or downwards to stop the shake. When the shake is totally removed, lock the legs with the check nut above the leg; meaning there 2 nuts, one above the leg & one under. You most probably have to check out your corner of the machine, where the problem lies. It is important that you lock the nuts or the problem will recur.

Does not spin

there is a coupling between the motor and gearbox, that fails.
it is a simple repair, and well worth trying

remove cabinet
  • pop off edge trims from control console
  • remove screwss from under edge trim
  • slide console forward and up ~1inch
  • flip the console over the back of the washer, the hinges are plastic and a little fragile
  • remove brass clips holding cabint inplace remember how they fit
  • lift cabinet ~1inch and remove forward
repair coupling
  • motor gearboxpump is at front bottom center
  • remove lock screw from clip holding pump to motor
  • remove two spring clips
  • pull pump off motor and swing sideways on hoses, tie off to left with a string
  • remove lock screw from clip holding motor to gearbox
  • remove two spring clips
  • pull motor off rubber coupling
  • pull nylon spider off gearbox shaft
  • pull nylon spider off motor shaft
  • install new spiders to shafts. Use a hammer to strike a wooden dowel on the center of the spider, dont hit the legs of the spider they break off

Note the new coupling spiders have metal centers to stop further breakage, common fault
  • turn gearbox spider 1 leg up two legs down
turn motor spider , 2 leg up 1 leg down so the spiders will interlock
  • install new rubber coupling on gearbox spider, install motor on coupling.
reassemble all clips and screws in reverse order
reassemble case in reverse order
on reassemble ensure plastic level sensing hose is not dislodged from water level switch body

takes longer to type than to do the repair
at parts store "Kenmore gearbox coupling" will get the correct part
