Please check on the bios whether the drive is shown.(press del button, to get into bios(before booting on to OS))If the drive is not shown on bios it means that there is no problem with the OS.
Are you able to open the drives tray? if not, it means that its power cord might have been detached.
Else the ribbon cable might have been detached. Open the laptop and fix it throughly.
If you have any doubts regarding this please mail me "[email protected]". Surely i will assist u..

easy... first, get the computer model, get the cd driver and reinstall the components or you can activate the enable cd writing on this drive while in the properties window also you could try updating the hardware but first scan for changes. enjoy...
os should of recognised it and installed it..maybe it installed as generic and isnt suitable.
click start , right click my computer , click properties.....In system properties screen click hardware then device manager.
here youll find youre cd/dvd device.double click on it to open and display details/driver etc.click driver heading then update...app opens giving options choose use internet.
if it cant find software check the cd/dvd name/model ( in properties still open) write it down and search on net for it....download it install it
Eveidently you disabled the CD from within control panel. I'm assuming you are familiar with windows, so I'm just going to give the buttons you press. Do the following:
Start(bottom left of screen)>Setting>Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>DVD/CD Rom Drives +>Click on your CD and select use this device (enable) down in the bottom of the box.
Press OK and close all the boxes and see if the device appears in your safely remove hardware dialogue.
If not, go to HP.com, select downloads and find the driver for your CD and reinstal.
