Door sometimes stops during run as if sensor is blocked

I have 1984 Craftsman 1/2 hp garage door opener. Just started having problems - door stops sometimes during travel like sensor is blocked(light blinking), other times runs good. Unplugged to reset - no change, wiring is good. Sensor(s) going bad or opener controls bad?

Thanks

Wipe off the sensor glass with a isopro rubbing alcohol; it should fix it.

All garage door openers have a quick release. Have you checked to make sure that is locked in place? Most have a cord hangin from it and you pull it which releases it from the chain. Make sure that is engaged and it should work.

The sensors only work when the door is closing. Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear and is probably stripped.

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door stops it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. If the main light doesn't flash you have either a bad IR sensor which is a small printed circuit board just in front of the motor or you need to increase the down force which is a control on the rear of the motor unit.

Craftsman 1/2 HP garage opener opens only 6 inches

Remove the cover and check the drive gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. It may be stripped. Take a close look at those door springs. They can sometime appear to be okay when one is broken.

Craftsman Garage Opener (Unit run front & back only for 2 second)

Double check to make sure the sensors are wired correctly. The 2 solid white wires go to terminal 2 and the wires with black stripes go to terminal 3. If the wiring is correct then you possibly have a bad RPM sensor. The RPM sensor is a small circuit board just in front of the motor.
