When i insert a disc into the drive, it doesnt read the disc or even spin at all. The power cord is corect, and the computer recognizes that thereis a machine hooked up to it, but nothing happens at all. The disk tray wont even slide out when you press the button. We tried to take a close look at the problem, but we cant seem to find out what is wrong with it. We opened up the machine, took all of the screws off, and looked if there was any harmful objects or dust inside the machine. There wasnt anything that even looked harmful. We were careful with it though, didnt bump or scratch any parts, and we still cannot find the problem. Please try and find a solution. Thank You

Assuming this is a new drive and not second hand and possibly faulty, when you fitted it into the pc, if you connect it to the same IDE cable as the hard drive or another connected drive on the same IDE channel, ensure that the jumpers on the back of the writer, next to where you connect the IDE cable are set to slave, as your hard drive or other drive will be the master. If you have connected the drive to and ide cable on it's own then the jumpers on the back should be set at master. Some drives also can use CS (Cable select) but not often.

My dvd drive disappeared from computer/device manager. Drive opens, and spins disc, but isn't recognized by Windows 7.

Does BIOS still recognize the drive? Also, check to make sure the IDE / SATA cord is fully connected, the dirve will operate with power, but wont be recognized without the other cord. If the cords are connected and BIOS reads it then win7 should autodetect it. If its not, it may be the disc itself, try putting something you know for a fact works. If the problem persists, try adding the hardware through the device manager, or deleting all mention of it, then re-adding it through the device manager. This tricked worked for Xp machines, although Ive never had to try it on a Win7 machine, it should still work.

My playstation powers up normally. It runs normally but will not read any games. When I insert the disk I hear no noise like the disk isn't even spinning. Is this the laser or something else?

the playstation 3 tends to have quieter disc spins have you tried taking all the cords out of the back and putting them back in (sometimes it seems even with power cord out will draw some power from TV so ALL cords) and check using multiple games

Hello,

The most common reason for the Laptop not reading discs is a bad drive. The following website sells the drives and does installs:

This drive should fix any reading issues you are having with your DVD, or issues inserting your DVD or ejecting them (or lack thereof). This is the entire DVD drive assembly mechanism replacement for your Laptop including a new laser. If your discs are not ejecting, or you cannot insert a disc -- or you can insert a disc but it will not load, this is what you need to get your Laptop going again!

Wont read disc

Hello there... Sony seems a choosy brand so it looks like your disc is not recognized by it. Check also your disc for scratches or you just need to clean your disc first before you can use it. Try it. If this doesn't help, try inserting your disc to other CD-ROM. See if your disc is okay. Hope this helps...

It sounds as if the disc drive laser has died, when they burn out they will not recognize any disc inserted. fortunatly a replacement drive is relativly inexpensive to replace.

After reformatting my fujitsu lifebook n5010 it doesnt read it.

Is the card reader built into the computer?
I know there are a few card readers out there having trouble reading 2 gig memory cards if the computer or card reader was built over 5 years ago.
If you have a data cable for your phone and software for the phone, your computer should be able to read it that way.
