  1. Maybe worth a shot, carefully thou
  2. Remove 2 * screws under battery cover
  3. front of remote: slide down the bottom cover (where rec, pause, etc option is)
  4. push both egdes of the slide area outwards, to totally remove this slide cover
  5. further more, now push both the above slide edges even more .. till bottom of (front face) cover loosens up. Whilst lifting this only a little at a time ...
  6. Gently remove /loosens only lower ends (only at this stage) of the 2 silver edge stripes... by .. lifting up (away from face of remote) ..whilst .. moving them outwards. ** i.e up, then outwards) Do not remove top edge of silver tip yet
  7. start separating left n right egdes with sharp flat point from under silver side strip, " digging" downwards towards bottom of remote
  8. At this point, the top edge of remote may be separated, but not necessary.. if you can pull insides out from bottom, PREFFERED OR .. can be done by:
  9. using flat edge - loosen/pry 1cm from corner on top tip of edge left n right digging downwards n outwards towards bottom of remote .. enough gap to use a little pressure if you must
  10. then if feasible, separate remote face .. also 1cm from right n left corner alongst each side from top corner
  11. .. now can remove silver side strip completey.
  12. Hope this helps, cheers

Thanks Jason, dried out and cleaned with alcohol but did not work as carbon pad worn out. REpaired by cleaning black contact with alcohol, and glued small patches of aluminium foil using Liquid Nails. Worked very well.

SOURCE: My Sony Bravia remote control is slowly loosing it's functions.

You can repair some of these remotes. Usually the hard part is getting the cover off. they are not really made to be serviced. The problem with most all remotes that start doing what you describe is either wear or something spilled on it. You can fix it. Sony remotes may have 1 screw in the battery compartment. remove it and try sliding the front and back. If that dosen't work try prying from one side with a sharp edege. If you do manage to get it open take the PC board out. You will see a rubber like membrane that lays against the board. Try cleaning that with a qtip and rubbing alcahol. Then clean the PC board the same way especially where the pads of rubber contact the board. Make sure it's completely dry and snap it back together. If it works better good, if not the pads are to worn and you just have to replace. Good Luck.

SOURCE: Dear sir, I have a Original

Most of the remotes can be opened and cleaned but with care. These remote boxes are self fitting plastics locks and so you need to use a thin blunt knife to wedge open the sides, like removing the car tyre from the rim.
once open you can use a remote control repair kit to clean or form the carbon contact points.

Maybe the remote got dropped by the cleaners. If you could control volume with the remote previously and now can't, I suspect the remote needs to be replaced.

I have an RF30 Universal Remote control for my parasound C1/C2. When I want to raise the volume I have to push the volume control button very hard. It seems to me that by pushing the button as hard

Just worked on a Samsung remote.usually 2 screws hold the unit together, sometimes that are in the battery compartment or possibly under a sticker or even both. When you take apart the remote you will find a membrane that is dirty, you may not see the dirt but a few wipes with an alcohol wipe or similar lint free cloth on the membrane and the circuit board that the membrane hit and reassemble. It will work like new again. If all else fails go to Amazon and purchase it there cheaply

My motorola k1 continuosly raised volume every time i opened it.. and sometimes it continuosly appear a no.4 even i didnt press it..

That particular volume switch either up or down is stack.if you can dismantle the phone, just provide any screw driver that fits and release the screw (usually T6 precision screw will do).4 screw at the back panel seen obviously and 2 hidden screw located at the bottom cover in front panel (shown on that avatar of motorola logo),now release the side clips and lift up the back cover . volume key or botton is detachable, remove it and check the button if works, check and fix the volume key membrane if its bouncing or corroded,if possible to clean and align Do it.otherwise remove the volume key membrane which where it is stack.then assemble the phone and see if the volume still stack, might need a volume key membrane if damage.service center will be the last option.

The key pad on my Motorola V3s RAZAR doesn't work the only button that works is the power button. All the other buttons don't work, how can i fix it myself.

If you're going to do it alone, follow this steps.

1. try to check if the volume up or down is working,if not, remove the battery cover and dismantle the lower panel at the back using a T6 precision screw, unscrew 2 screws and by using your thumbnail look for edge cover, insert and lift it up gentle (remember that a flex connector is attach on the right side If done, check the volume switch and remove the circular metal (keypad membrane) that is volume high and low apparently.clean it and align it when returning back before assembling it(might some shortage or hang buttons that's why keys are not working).,also try to check if the flex connector or socket is clean as well as the board socket connector cause keypad function has the line with it.assemble it and try if its working.

2. If the method above fails, need to replace the keypad flex cable.it maybe to risky for you to do cause the keypad connector is connected at the upper flip panel.i maybe reliable if you continue and there's a chance to break the lcd cause upper portion is to hard to dismantle.better bring it a mobile service center for keypad flex replacement.

hope this simple solution helps.

Mute button is too recessed & poorly designed. Please tell me how to disassemble this remote so I can replace button with a proper tactile switch. Conductive-rubber original switches are designed for...

Sorry but what you ask is impractical and maybe impossible.

Conductive rubber membrane switches generally work well, but they do allow oils in sweat and especially from food residues on the hands to pass through over time. On the reverse these oils eventually form an insulating fatty grease which prevent contact, but by carefully dismantling the remote (most of which are not designed to be dismantled, so you'll have to work out how to do this for yourself) the grease can be cleaned off. Most remotes are secured by both screws and plastic clips, you'll have to use a bit of common sense to work out how to dismantle and a plastic case opener to avoid damage to the plastic remote casing.Noter that as you work, if there's a part which won't come apart with gentle persuasion, then there's either a hidden screw which you have missed or a glued section, or sometimes a one way plastic clip which is not intended to ever be unfastened and which must be cut or broken..

I use a piece of paper towel soaked with car brake cleaner on the back of the membrane and if that fails I even wash the membrane in hot soapy water, but it needs to be thoroughly dried out overnight before re-use. I also use the paper towel and brake cleaner on the contact surface of the pcb, but go very sparingly with the brake cleaner as on some designs it can strip the insulating lacquer off the pcb. I try to use it only on the contact surfaces. Usually this fixes the failed contacts immediately and makes them as good as new, but sometimes I need to dismantle and repeat the work if the remote was very gummed up. If you use this method you can cut a suitable sized piece of rubber from perhaps a pencil eraser and superglue it atop the mute button to give it a higher profile.

If you're determined to make the modification you describe, then you're on your own as it's totally non-standard and not recommended. But you'll need to start by finding a suitable miniature non-latching switch designed for pcb surface mounting. Many are designed for light duty only, so you'll need to find one designed for more than occasional operation. Next, drill two holes through the pcb contacts which were formerly operated by the rubber membrane. You then need to thoroughly clean the contacts back to bright metal and then use a soldering iron to tin them. Tin the switch contacts and then insert the contacts through the holes. The low profile of the switch means that there is very unlikely to be the space to solder the switch from the front, so you may have to apply the soldering iron to the opposite side of the board where the contact pass through. This side usually has no solderable tracks, so you just have to be skilled enough to apply sufficient heat to the contacts to melt the solder on the opposite side without frying the switch. You could even drill the holes larger than needed to accommodate a very short piece of fine diameter copper conductor to pass through the hole and so give a solderable surface on the rear. If you succeed in this difficult task then you now need to take the contact membrane and either cut out the original mute button and fabricate some kind of protruding switch top for yourself, or partially hollow out the rear of the mute button to provide an accurate location recess for the top of the new switch. The membrane need to be in close contact with the new switch without pressing down on it whilst at rest, so expect a bit of trial and error. You may still need to build up the front of the button as described earlier.

If you've worked carefully, accurately, and have chosen the correct switch then you'll have achieved your aims. If you make a single mistake then you'll have irreversibly damaged your remote control. Like I said, it's a non-standard and non-recommended modification. Note that many of the miniature switches you'll be offered have the same internal construction to the one which you're trying to replace, although there's often a supplementary metal spring to assist with the action.

Good luck.

Tv remote control

There is most likely dirt below membrane preventing contact. Remove batteries, open it up, wash rubber membrane in warm water with dish washing detergent, dry it completely. Also, use some alcohol and cotton sticks to clean contact on the remote control board.
