Hp Digtal Color 610 printer

I am getting an error of; "SCANNER FAILURE". I have tried cleaning the scanner assembly, however the error still returns. I can make copies,however if the copier sits for more than 5 minutes, I get this error. Thank you for any assistance, Jesse J. Aguilar

This is the scanner unit inside the printer, needs to be replaced.HP's weakness with Multifunction machines.

Any of these error codes (51.20 51.21 51.22 51.23) points to a failure with one of the laser scanner assemblies on the HP Color LaserJet 4610 an 4650 series. To solve these error codes, replace the corresponding laser scanner. Sometimes when the laser scanner fails you will also hear loud noises (often higher-pitched noises like screeching sounds); the noises can be another sign that the laser scanner needs replacing.

I worked with those printer for 2 years...
This scanner error 5 you are getting is hardware failure on the scanner assembly
I would recommend you to try updating the firmware to the latest version, but most of the time its not going to work.
Now heres the best solution:
If the printer its under warranty (1 year after purchase date) just call hp tech support and you can get a replacement for $69 US dolars
its better than buying the scanner assembly
If the printer its out of the 1 year warranty, theres a service note for this specific issue that will extend your warranty 1 more year, that means 2 years warranty if the problem is a scanner error 5

Error code: "Scanner failure"

Hi
if your 7130 is showing "scanner failure," try resetting the date/time

If that fails, then your trouble's the motherboard, not the scanner assembly

I suggest you to get help from hp to replace the mother board of scanner

When I try to copy something, it says "Scanner Failure Turn Off Power Then Turn On Again". I did this but it says the same thing.

You have a bad scanner assy which will cost more to replace than a new machine.

Scanner 5 Error Printer in shop but unable to get new parts

The solutions for this are posted elsewhere on this site, look for "Scanner Error 5". Basically, it's one of several things that can be cleaned or adjusted without having to replace the entire scanner head. If it does need parts they should return the printer to you until the parts are available. This error does not prevent you from printing. Even though the printer shows the error message and tells you to cycle the power, you don't need to. It will still print with this error. Find a repair shop with someone who knows what they are doing, or get a #10 Torx screw driver and fix it yourself.

Read the other thread. Could be dirty mirrors, dirty or crooked film sensor strip, or bad light bulb, all of which can be easily repaired.
