Question about Microsoft Xbox Console
Hi there. From what you're saying your freezing could be related to the dvd-rom drive that is failing, or pretty close to. Is the front panel led flashing red, or orange when it freezes ? If not, your problem is really the dvd drive. I've repaired hundreds of those ! You're really using an xbox, not a xbox360, correct ? You also probably have a thomson dvd drive. You can buy a replacement lens for those on ebay for 20$, and it's user replaceable, you only need small phillips screwdriver. Remove the 6 screws underneat the xbox, and check your dvd drive's assembly manufacturer. It's either a phillips, thompson, or samsung. The thompson is the cheaper one... You can just try to clean the lens also. But most of the times, if it's a thompson, it's probably shot already. They're bad lens. The refurb ones are better to my experience ! Hope that helps, cheebster.

You could try hoovering around the vents gently to remove any blockages that could be causing overheating of your system, but the clicking noise and freezes more than likely will be your harddrives platteletts failing or the parking arm. I cant see it being the cddrive, although you could try using a cd cleaner to clean the lens, although microsoft do not recommend using one. It may im afraid be not long before the dreaded red light system failure indication. You may need to take to a repairer unless you can replace the drive yourself, but i doubt that is worth it.
