Danby DDW396: pump leaks when in use.

The pump leaks and overflows into the bottom of dishwasher. I believe the seal between pump and motor is bad. Took off motor but a piece of the pump is attached. How do I get that apart without breaking it?

If your dishwasher leaks, check these:Main tub seal
Door gasket or seal
Water-inlet valve
Hoses

Main tub seal
Note… If the main motor of your dishwasher is mounted vertically, beneath the center bottom of the dishwasher, the following instructions probably apply to you. But if your motor is mounted horizontally, the pump isn't serviceable--you need to replace the entire pump and motor assembly.

The main tub seal is beneath the drain impeller. It prevents the water in the dishwasher from leaking out near the shaft of the motor. To get to the seal, which is inside the dishwasher, remove the:

1. Lower rack
2. Spray arm
3. Spray arm support
4. Wash/drain impellers

Then pry the seal out of its housing and replace it.

Door gasket or seal
Over time, door gaskets and seals harden and lose their ability to seal properly. You can't repair the seals. You need to replace them if they've begun to leak.

Water-inlet valve
The water-inlet valve, itself, seldom leaks. But, the water-supply line from the house and the rubber tube leading from the valve to the inside of the dishwasher may leak. Tighten or repair/replace these as necessary.

The water-inlet valve could mechanically stick open. When that happens, the water continues to flow into the dishwasher, which then floods your kitchen. Turn off the water supply to the dishwasher, and replace the valve.

Hoses
Behind the lower access panel on your dishwasher are several rubber or plastic hoses. If the leak appears at a connection, try a new clamp. If that doesn't work, replace the hose.

You really must get a service manual. But if you cannot find one, simply open up the inspection hatch, and look for the source of the leak, usually around the Pump, filters etc, often a fitting has come loose... as related locate and repair your leak.

Water does not drain from the bottom. I understand that a small amount is normal, however, this is not a small amount. Thanks for your help.

It worked for me .I have a danby countertop dishwasher.
I took off the metal top
I looked under on the left side to find the pump
I took both hoses off the pump and took off the little fan.
i took off the little metal bracket behing the little fan. and unscrewed the little pump to take it out.
the little metal piece that the fan was on wouldn't even move.So i sprayed it down with wd and it started moveing again then a screw fell out.so i found where it went(inside the motor which the fan and metal piece move) got the tweezers and replced it. oiled it some more and put it all back together. Perfect.

Water pools in bottom of dishwasher and dishes come out dirty

Pump is stopped up, or bad, can you here the pump run, if so drain and make sure there is nothing in the intake of the pump.

Does your dishwasher runs? Check the water control knob, is it ON position?, check fill valve solenoid connector if not connected it is not going to sense water.

Leaking rinse fluid/spray arm rotation slow

from the description it seems like the unit isnt getting enough water,the arm wont spin as quickly if the dishwasher doesnt have enough water in it.before you run a cycle pour a quart of water in the tank,if the unit runs fine then you have a float problem.let me know.
