Cannot connect to wireless network

I have been trying to connect a desk top to our wireless network using the above adapter. It was previously connected but needed some work to be done I got it back 2 days ago & it now will not connect. I get a message saying The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network . I phoned my provider & they said the problem was with the adapter. I have tried uninstalling the network via the manage networks section in control panel. It is running windows7 & a talk talk router

SOURCE: NetGear WG111 802.11g/b Wireless Adapter

After a small amount of trouble, I have configured my Win 98 laptop to use
Netgear WG111v2 wireless modem to connect to my wireless router. I used
the driver from the CD that came with the modem, following the instructions and
got to the point, after rebooting a couple of times, where I was connected to the
router, but could not reach another computer on my network (or the outside world).

I double-clicked on the wireless model icon in the system tray and noticed that,
on the NetGear SMART WIZARD panel, the WEP key was set to use the
"Create from passphrase" option, even though I supplied the already generated key (the
hex numbers) during installation of the modem. (The modem was using the key
as a passphrase to create another key.)

To fix this, on the SMART WIZARD panel, I
selected the "Enter key manually" option and, er, entered the hex key (the one
the router/access point uses for security) manually.
I hit "Apply" on the Wizard and, lo and behold, I was pinging the rest of my network.

I rebooted one more time (I had some leftover bad settings in my "Network Connection"
TCP/IP entry for the WG111 connection; I reset them before the reboot
to allow my network to automatically assign an address) and I was then able
to view my favorite site (bythestadium) from my favorite browser (firefox)

Laptop died and now I cant connect my desktop with the belkin usb adapter. It just keeps saying aquiring network address.

Use the Ethernet cable to verify the router or modem is working and connects to the Internet. If so, then check your wireless adapter in the desk top through device manager - it should detect the Belkin. Also, verify you are entering the correct WEP keys to access the wireless connection to the router or modem - sometimes it gets typed in wrong.

I AM UNABLE TO ACCESS INTERNET THRU MY HYBRID APPLE MAC DESK TOP-

Go into network set up a shared Internet connection using ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) You can use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to share an Internet connection among two or more computers on a network. First, you need one computer, called the host computer, that is connected to the Internet and that has a separate connection to the other computers on your network. You enable ICS on the Internet connection. The other computers on your network then connect to the host computer, and from there to the Internet through the host computer's shared Internet connection.
If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings might prevent you from completing these steps.
On the host computer (the computer whose Internet connection you plan to share):
  1. ?id=microsoft.windows.resources.shellexecutetopiciconClick to open Network Connections.
  2. Right-click the connection that you want to share, and then click Properties.getcontent.aspx?assetid=18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b&documentset=en-us&renderkey=signed1 If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click the Sharing tab, and then select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection check box.

Capture portal software

What you are discussing here is called a "WiFi Hotspot" and isn't platform specific for people wishing to connect (so from the point of view of people connecting to your wireless network, it doesn't matter if you're running Windows or Linux).

A quick google search reveals a number of vendors, including http://www.hotspotsystem.com/ who have a variety of types of software for creating wifi hotspots.
