Question about GE Monogram ZISS480DRSS Stainless Steel

1 Answer

Cold temps 2000 and newer GE Monogram, side by side, dispenser in the door, the fridge and freezer are reporting a temp on the indicators of 23 below in the freezer, and 34 in the fridge, with rock hard icecream to prove that they are probably correct, nothing frozen on the fridge side though, probably close, the settings are at 4 and 40, I also am noticing a fan running on the inside, for what seems to be all the time, I don't recall this before, or if I'm just now noticing while I Sherlock this, the compressor does not seem to be running all the time, any ideas? Thanks.

The freezer goes down to -20F and the fridge temp goes up to 45F or + frequently (every 3/4 days), then it adjusts itself to the normal setting 0F/34F. Can this be explain, or is it normal?

Do you by chance know how to get to the baffle for replacement?

Same thing happened to us. A baffle that conducts air from the freezer to the fridge gets stuck in the "open" position and needs to be replaced. That'll fix that problem but watch for others including the water dispenser that spontaneously begins blasting water across your floor. We've dealt with this twice.

Vegetables in crisper are frozen, as well as liquids in bottom 1/2 of fridge door. The fridge & freezer temp controls won't adjust to our settings. Also, we're getting ice, but no water will dispense.

The freezer cools the refrigerator, so you actually get very cold air passing from the freezer to the refrig. The air from the freezer enters the refrig on the top and falls to the bottom where it is drawn back into the freezer. The temperature of the refrig is regulated by a thermostat and a fan that runs when the thermostat calls for cooling. If the refrig thermostat is faulty and causes the fan to run more than it should, there will be a freezing problem in the refrig at the bottom because cold air falls and warm air rises. If the refrig is thermostat is calling for cooling constantly, this will take more cold air from the freezer than is normal. Your freezer temp might be higher than normal and the refrig will be colder then desired. If the fan from the freezer is running constantly I would suspect a bad refrig thermostat.

GE monogram refrigerator too cold

There is a balance between the freezer and fridge. Reduce the freezer temp and see what the fridge temp does. By reduce I
mean make the freezer warmer. If it is set too cold the fridge gets colder.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. Make sure this fan is running. You may have to hold the door switch in for it to run. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.
The problem could be the electronic control if you have one or the mechanical linkages.

The opening should be at the top probably behind the plastic removable cover.

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it'll be the control.

GE Monogram Built In Fridge-freezer is not cold enough, but ice is ok...refrigerator is too cold no matter the setting. Someone suggested vacuuming filter above the fridge. Would this work?

The freezer temp is fine but the fridg temp is 50 degrees. It will not get colder than that. I have left it off for 24 hours to defrost and turned it back on and this did not solve the problem.

try moving the temp around, then if you tryed that already then defrost your frige turn off completly for one day if that dont fix it check if switch is working, last thing is the change the compressor
