Cannot view Gigabeat s30 as a drive letter (e.g. D,E etc)
I took a big holiday and on it lots of photos. When I got home I synched my Gigabeat to my PC and lost the damn lot.
I have some software to help mme recover deleted items but first I need to have my Gigabeat listed as a HDD letter so I can search it. Currently it only shows up as "Gigabeat S" but with no home drive letter assigned.
I have tried installing Gigabeat Home but this does not recognize my Gigabeat S.
Anyone with other ideas out there?

Your s30 is not possible to map it to a drive letter. The reason ? cause your s30 and the other brothers of your mp3 are MTP class mp3's. Meaning that they are Media Transfer Protocol mp3's, so you can only transfer media files. If your mp3 player would be a USB Mass Storage Device, like alot of other mp3's, well you would've been able to recover you're files. But until now, the answer is no you can't recover the files just becauses of that stupid invention of Microsoft, the MTP.

Get a card reader and use it to download to a folder you create on your desktop. If that doesn't get you all of your pics, take the card to a Walmart store and use their picture kiosk machines to print the pics or even make a CD of them. Once the pics are safe, you can format the card in the camera to get it erased and back to original condition.
i'm thinking the hard drive is messing up... you know when i dropped my
gigabeat S30 it wasn't working n it was freezing and the video files
weren't playing at all. it would freeze when i turn on or play video.
then i turned it off and then back on using the battery switch. it said
"contact the manufacturer for repair" with a yield sign. i really
thought i killed it...but i still had my hopes high to fix it myself
somehow n i really thought it was from the hard drive. so i took it in
my hand and gave it a shake on my palm. like i actually hit it on my
palm for once n then i turned it on and it worked =D fineee.... i was
so happy n now it still works fine ;)
