The disconnect/close button on then side of my Blackberry only works on occasion. Is there a way for me to fix this? I am betting it is a contact problem, but I am reluctant to open the unit for fear of causing anothe problem.

Re: disconnect/close button does not work
Try this: turn it off. fill a bowl with alcohol. while holding the Blackberry under the alcohol at the place where the disconnect/close button is located, press the button many many many times until you are nuts. The goal here is for the alcohol to penetrate into the contact area and wash away any debris. Then towel dry and use a blow dryer (be careful!). Any change?

Looks like you just simple change your o2 sim card with tim simcard on your blackberry. You can't do that if you want to use TIM sim card on your blackberry, you must use blackberry bold 9700 unlock code for O2 to unlock your blackberry network. After your blackberry unlocked then you can put any sim card from other network in your phone.
If you can open front case then its very easy to solve. just clean dust and then with small pin or any small pointed pin push internal plastic to down side so that button can work well. after done test it then close that case.
if not solved then may be issue with circuit side problem and it also related to switching IC of keyboard so if this is damage then you need to replace IC.
When you press the red or end button to close a program it does not exit but rather minimizes it. you need to hit the menue button the blackberry key ( the one with all the dots next to the trackball) and select close or exit
Have you tried pulling the battery? Often times my Storm has locked up and nothing worked. The only way to really do a restart, is by pulling the battery.
-Take the battery out and wait 1 minute.
-Replace the blackberry and wait for Operating System to startup
If this doesnt fix the problem, you may have a problem unit and you should take it in to the Verizon Wireless store.
are you actually going to the menu button and selecting close on each screen or just hitting end or the return button to get to the home screen? If you don't actually select close in the menu screen some progams remain open. go into all applications when there press the menu key and scroll down to close this should help
