I have bought an external microphone A4tech HS-200 (not an USB one), that has no drivers (accordind to the manufacturer), in order to use Skype, but my laptop Toshiba Satelite A50-106 doesn't record the sounds. I have tried to play with the "Sounds and Multimedia" in Control Panel (based on the recommendation found on Skype official site). Now the question is.....can I do something about ity??? or maybe my laptop doesn't have a appropriate sound card????

My external headset microphone suddenly stopped working while talking on Skype. The audio works fine but no one can hear me. Replacing the mic did not help. I wonder if I have hit a key which knocked it out?

I had this problem too. My built in mic wasnt working, but i went to the list of programs (Classic view of the start menu) and under the program folder TOSHIBA > Speech System it'll have a choice "Configure Microphone." After I went through that, it worked fine. Make sure you restart your webcam software though after you've done that if you had it open like me. Hope this works!

Well after 98 minutes of on hold the technician explained to me that the A215-S5837 without the webcam option does not have an internal microphone. Even though the sound card has the option for it the actual microphone hardware is not installed in the laptop! Oh well off to the store. It was still a good deal!

Go to the volume control panel (small speaker icon bottom right) and look for Options-Properties-Recording...is the microphone clicked on?

Most laptops sound control is found by going to Control Panel, Sounds and then clicking Mute in the box of the function you'd like to mute. Sometimes a speaker is down in the system tray in the lower right near your clock. Double clicking on that will open the same controls. If there is a button on the laptop itself, it is generally a "no sound" muting that I don't believe has anything to do with the internal microphone. HTH

Hello fixya. I just reinstalled windows 7 for my acer aspire 5943G but for some reason i cant get the mic in the computer nor the mic in my headset to work, i dont know if its because i need a driver,...

Check the device manager to see if a microphone is installed. If it is, it may not be installed correctly due to a missing driver or wrong driver. If you find a mic installed, right click and get the properties. Find the tab that says Update driver and allow the laptop to connect to the internet to find the right driver. If no microphone is detected, you can manually install the microphone through the Control Panel under Devices/ Add Hardware. From there, you will select microphone and be given the option to either install it with a disk or by selecting the manufacturer/model.

Hi there,

There is also a possibility that the mic is muted. Just go to the properties for the sound and check the microphone if it is muted.

Recording Issues In Vista

Microsoft moved the particular option that you need to enable since Windows XP, and have also changed its default to MUTE.

To hear what is playing through MIC IN...

  • Go to Control Panel and select "Sound"
  • Under the "Playback" tab, double click on your enabled speakers.
  • Select the "levels" tab, and look for "Mic In Volume".
  • Click once on the speaker icon that is muted to un-mute it.
I really hope that this has solved your problem, if it has not, please let me know and I will do my best to help you further. Good Luck!
