Do not interfere with the lens as it is out -dont try to push it back- this will wreck it. Take the batteries out and with the eraser at the end of a pencil polish the contacts at the bottom the the battery chamber. Do the same with the contacts in the lid Try a further new set of batteries. Insert them. close the lid switch on What happened? Nothing Then switch on again and this time gently push ther battery compartment lid. What happened?

lens extended, won't respond with rechargeable batteries I've always used or with new ones. Appears dead as a rock. Any suggestions other than replacing batteries and cleaning contacts?
my digital camera only open the lents and then shut down every time
my camera is all blurry i don't know if the lens needs cleaned or what can anyone help?
I am using rechargeable batteries and have a lot of problems with them. Sometimes they work and sometimes not. I put the camera in pieces but couldn't find anything wrong. But then I noticed that the length is a little different, so I have four that is working and eight a little shorter that don't work.
When I push 'On' the lens come out and the screen says "Pentax Optio" against a blue background but when I push any of the buttons nothing happens and after a few seconds the screen goes black. Same thing happens if I push 'Off.'
