TX SR705 Receiver not respomding to Remote

I have taken the batteries out and unplugged the receiver.  Nothing seems to work.  The remote does still control other non Onkyo components like the TV and DVD player.  Can anyone tell me where I can get a new remote for reveiver as well.
Also while the remote was working, when you pressed the mute button the volume went up.  How can this problem be reversed.
Thanks, Geoff

I also am having the same problem. I was able to pinpoint that when I brought my remote within about a range of the receiver it would respond to volume signals every once in a while. I've only had the receiver for a couple of weeks so the batteries are fairly new. I've double checked light reflection interference and as well as other issues and nothing is blatantly obvious. This all came about out of the blue.

I am having the same issue. I can control the TV but not the receiver. Hope there is a simple solution like a reset. I have a felling it is the receiver infrared circuitry not working.

Great! I got the remote to work by setting it to 1.

However, I cannot adjust the muting level which is set to +41.  Do you have any other ideas on how I can go about adjust this level.

Within about 2 feet, the receiver seems to respond fine. Outside of that range, if I push one button on the remote (e.g., Volume Up), the red light on the receiver stays on (as if it is receiving commands from the remote) and the volume will continue to increase until I hit another button. I have also seen it do this with the "setup" menu, cycling thru all options, and with the audio/music mode, again cycling thru all options until another button is pressed. I have seen this with three different remotes (original OEM remote, and two Harmony 880).

My wife inadvertently placed an item on top of one of the remotes in our "remote graveyard" (we use a Harmony 880). This resulted in the unused remote continuously sending a disruptive signal that was interfering with the receiver. This explains why getting close to the receiver fixed the problem (because the disruptive signal was blocked by my body).

For your mute button:

check your setup:
*press setup
*go to Miscellaneous
*go to volume setup
*go to muting level
*make sure that the muting level is on minimum (press the left arrow or the left preset button)
*if it shows a negative infinite sign (its measured in decibels) its ok.
you can now mute it without the loud noise.

Abaout Remote:

Please make sure that the remote ID is set to 1. this would be on the setup menu of the receiver. The remote ID on the receiver should be the same as your remote. Please refer to page 94 and 98 of your owners manual. it would give you the exact procedure in how to set it.

Onkyo volume control code on directv remote

It depends on the remote. If you have the long rectangular remote then it will only work TVs, not sound systems. The smaller curvy remote will do sound systems. But not every make.

Programming is done by following the onscreen guide.

If there are no codes for your Onkyo receiver, and there's no way to do a "search all codes" type scan, then you have to acceppt that it's a limit of the remote because it doesn't have the right codes in its memory.

Your don't explain which Logitech Harmony you own. I have seen on some harmonys that the auto programming for a specific device isn't sufficient to give useful enough functionality, the desired functions must be added manually. I'm assuming the device in question is listed for your remote. If it's not you are dead in the water. Your only option is to go back online with harmony, verify the device can be added and learn how to add functions manually. That's all I can help with the limited information you have supplied. Need Onkyo tx-nr616 remote code so ATT U-verse remote can control Onkyo

I used 5002 and it works for on/off only. This is better than nothing. You can try codes from other Onyko devices to see if you can get one that provides more functional control.
