I put a cd in and it will show what track the cd is on but does not play the cd the radio works just fine

sounds like you are running through an amp. if you are, you may have the amp remote turn on connected the the power antenna lead instead of the amp remote turn on lead. this should be a blue with a white stripe wire.

How can i plug my mp3 player into my alpine cde-7853?

Get a cd/aux adapter from an alpine dealer, this will change your cd changer input on the back of the radio to a RCA input, then get yourself a Y adapter, and head phone adapter, and you are set..
