Hadrive Making Knocking Sound, does not function

you told that it has not been pysically damaged than why light just blinks ok first you see the cable is in good condition. next plugin you hard disk to your computer and listen if any kind of sound coming through your hard disk (sound is like tee tic) if the sound out comes like what i said some way it stuck or damaged let me know if it works

You've tried different USB cables; so, that cannot be the problem.

You've tried connecting to different computers; so, the problem is _not_ your computer.

What's left is "inside" the case:
* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter,
* the disk-drive.

Open the case, and remove the disk-drive, and connect it as a "slave" drive to some computer.
If it is detected, then the USB-to-disk-drive adapter that has failed.
If it not detected, then the disk-drive itself has failed.

FInd the serial-number on the Western Digital disk-drive, and enter it onto Western Digital's web-site, on the "check-warranty" page. If it's older than 3 years, the warranty probably has expired, unless you were "lucky" and got a 5-year warranty.

Western Digital has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- just buy a new Passport through their web-site, and cite the serial-number, and you'll get a significant discount on _their_ price (could be higher than your local retail computer-store) for a new (probably larger) Passport.

Most likely you have damaged the actual harddrive, the ticking sound is NOT A GOOD HARDDRIVE SOUND! Contact western digital and tell them that your NEW harddrive is making this sound out of the box DO NOT MENTION DROPPING IT. They should RMA it as long as you really did just buy it.

RMA it to Western Digitial

first check the clutch hydrolic fluid. If it's low or leaking, it may not disengage the clutch completely causing the disk to drag (and smell) The knocking sounds like you're loosing the thowout bearing and/or possibly the disk (there are cushion springs that may have come out of place). Take it to a transmission shop that does free diagnosis. anything other than fluid-related is going to be pricey.

It assumes that the drive C is the drive you booted from or the "root" drive. You must make it something other than "C". Try putting in a camera card, hooking up an external drive or other device that the computer makes drive "C" THEN hook up your passport. It will be "D" or "G" or something other than "C" and it will work.

Cheek your system os is not suportion the hard drive increase the ram and try in xp only

i have the same problem.
macbook doesn't see anymore my hdd western digital 2,5'' white 250 GB.
tried disk warrior, disk utility but nothing.
it's just seem disappeared, even if i hear it works inside (and the led light is on)
what can i do?
