Question about Gateway 3040GZ PC Notebook

My CD/DVD Drive got Pwnt!

My CD/DVD Drive is "broken" in the sense that it is unrepairable by built in diagnostics. I attempted a driver re-install. to my dismay, I found there was no available driver anywhere, or on my provided "drivers" CD. I then attempted to fix it in Safe Mode, and this is where I ran into the one exception to my oh so typical problem. In any form of safe mode, the drive boots. It is a fully functional drive in safe mode. In a normal boot its visible in the manager but it has the "I don't work" exclamation point over it. I can't think of anything other than a new driver to fix this issue, but if you possess a higher technological capacity than I, or you've had this issue and resolved it, please lemme know!

As I had stated I had attempted a Driver update and there are none available. I finally corrected the issue buy using regedit to remove my upper and lower filters in the root file. Thank you for your time.

If you need a driver for it that's simple. Just go to: under support you'll find downloads and after clicking on that it will take you to an area that will allow you to download the appropriate driver... Another thing you might try, if you have a Windows operating system, is delete the CD/DVD and shut the system down... Windows on re-booting will identify the new hardware and attempt to automatically re-install a driver for it.. Good Luck! Bill

Cant install Windows 7

Makes no sense. All operating systems during install have generic drivers designed to work the installing drive. If you are getting this message it has to be bogus and I suggest trying another dvd drive in its place.

My Dell E 1505 DVD RW drive seems to record ok, but to play direct from a CD or DVD results in garbled sound, and degraded picture. Does this sound like a driver problem, or a hardware issue? (Playbacks...

This sounds like your DVD/CD drive is going bad. If it was a driver issue you would probably get an error of "no disk in drive".
Try running diagnostics on your computer to seeif you have a hardware problem. You should have a CD that came with thecomputer that has "Diagnostics and Utilities" listed under contents.Boot form this CD and run the extended diagnostics.
If you don't have the CD you can go to andselect "Drivers and Downloads". Enter the "service tag" (serialnumber) of the computer. You can then download "Diagnostics" .
To boot from a CD disk, power on your computer and tap the key tobring you to the "One time boot menu". Insert the CD into the top CD/DVD driveand then select "Boot from CD/DVD" and hit key. Select the"Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics.
If you have issues trying to boot form this CD or running the diagnostics then you CD/DVD drive needs to be replaced.

I have a Vostro 1500 Dell laptop running Windows XP and just recently my CD/DVD drive has stopped working. I was wondering if I should reload my drivers and which ones I should download. Thanks, Mike...

There aren't specific drivers for a CD/DVD drive, they came built in the windows installer. If you have problems with you CD/DVD drive, you will have to change it. It's very easy, you won't have to dissamble the laptop. You can see on youtube how to replace a CD/DVD drive: There are CD/DVD drivers for 10$ on second hand.

DVD drive is not working when i have upgraded mp PC to windows7

This is usually an easy solution. I say usually, because not every hardware company has Win7 drivers (not sure why though). Just go to the maker of your DVD Drive and find the right drivers for your drive (if they have Win7 drivers). I would be able to help more if I knew the maker and model of your DVD Drive.

After installing windows 7, the LG DVD drive doesn't work and windows says it cant install the driver

Many older ICH7 chipset drivers as well as generic derivers has been removed from the winodws Latest Built, for you it it seems the cd/dvd rom drivers are missing.

I here give the link uploaded by me, which contains the driver for CD/DVD ROM fro windows 7, Please open device manager and manually locate the CD/DVD rom and select the .inf file to install the driver

Please leave me comment, if you need further assistance

Rename CD-ROM Drive.txt to CD-ROM Drive.rar!

Try the Intel package(link posted before), that's an Intel mobo.

My dvd drive are not sense by my laptop. Show drives may be corrupted or missing (code 39). My driver is pioneer dvdrw-dvr-k17bata.

Try uninstalling through the device manager. Once uninstalled reboot and see if the drive is recognized and software/drivers install automatically. This should fix the problem. Hope this helps.

DVD/CD Combo drive, removal/installation.

I believe that this model has a built in drive the only way to remove it is to remove cover to the laptop. If the drive isn't working go into hardware profiles right hand click on the drive and select remove. This will remove it from windows then when you restart windows should find the drive and install the drivers. Make sure you have the software drivers before you do this.

Thanks J

Software drivers needed

You'll be glad to know you do not need drivers to install a cd or dvd drive, Windows has the controllers built in the software. Just fit it in your desktop and Windows will automatically install it for you. Please rate solution.
