Question about Sony FD Trinitron KD-34XBR960 34" TV

Occasional poor reception, no digital reception when turning on television

I have owned this tv for about two and a half years. The television is connected to a good quality rooftop antenna I am not on cable. For at least the last two years, frequently when turning on the tv I get poor reception and no digital or HD reception. When this happens I have to turn the tv on and off from one to several times before I get normal reception. When the television is operating normally the picture quality is quite good on all stations. There is never any problem when using an external source such as a dvd player. In all other respects this televisions performance is excellent.

There is a known common problem with that model and as per Sony bulletin you need to replace L6903 with P/N 1-406-662-11 and add a small ceramic cap to location #C6931 P/N 1-115-156-11... Any shop will understand what I've just said so take it with you when you drop the set off for repairs... It's an inexpensive fix and well worth it. Hope this helps. Bill

How to Hook Up a TV Antenna?

Hello Thomas Casey,

Promptly popping out answers has taught me this is actually a GLOBAL site... and needs for "television antennae" vary widely... GLOBALLY... also by set (TV).

Assuming a MODERN flat screen (digital capable in a USA
broadcast market... you are looking for a uhf style antenna

that can connect to the coaxial connector on the back of your "TV"...

DON'T have one?
Don't panic... figure out what your MONITOR interfaces are
and purchase a tuner (probably comes with its own wee little USELESS (LINE OF SIGHT ultra high frequency
(pretty poor reception in sub-urban locations)).

(((OUT-DOOR actually do work better))).

Getting cuter every day... and there seems to be success with "amplified" (pricey) but Zwireless... but the ViewTV DA-290 is less than $20 and is 4+ star rated...

I have a tatung tv 32inch and i turn it on it just give me snow flake

You have poor reception or you are trying to obtain a channel that is not available to you in your area. You don't say whether you have cable, satallite or antenna but with digital stations now available everywhere your reception should be perfect or nothing.

Color went in and out, no i only get fair black and white picture often grainy

I'm assuming here that this tv is being used for analogue reception because on digital you either get a perfect picture or when the signal is weak enough, nothing at all (common when trying to use rabbits ears or in poor reception areas). Assuming analogue then, when the signal is weak (grainy or snowy picture) the colour (called chroma) is automatically turned off because grainy colour is unwatchable. This is normal. Solution, a better aerial to provide a stronger signal.

Some channel no sound

Hello Blwas5 hi, If some channels have sound and others none, its either the TV has poor reception or, its the channel's weak signal. check them both or see if your neighbors TV acts like yours. If thy neighbor reception is good, then thy TV has poor reception, you can't do anything to fix that. get another TV with good reception qualities.

It gives an excellent reception but only for a while

There is a problem with the tuner section. I would first suspect poor solder connections. If resoldering the ground connections on the tuner fails to resolve the problem, a replacement can be purchased for $38.40 using part number: 8-598-594-30

Tv reception on handheld Sony Watchman in Feb 2009

The old Watchmans are analog. If plugged into a digital cable/dish system it will scan in UHF and find the working channel than can be conrolled by your digital remote control. As far as taking it out on its own and working off the external antenna...those days will be over. Sony will have to manufacture digital Watchmans.
